肪ƂB

Actually, that is part of my issue too, that is when is the appropriate time to use continuous form (~ā@܂j? I am still quite confused over it. Some situation is quite obvious, like Ƃ͋ł܂BHowever, with the scenario mentioned above, it makes me wonder if it is appropriate for me to use that form. Hopefully, I will get it in time to come.

Indeed ahochaude, Japan is well known for its' excellent customer services. They seems to say "Yes" to all the requests made by the customer or at least they try. I am definitely impressed by the way the do it. Applaud

Yes they do. But that's how standard customer service should be!
Why are you impressed by it? Is customer service that bad in where you reside? I know it's becoming horrible where I live now.
Japanese still have a humble head on their shoulders and that's why they do what they do. Go to America, and you get freckin' attitude. Even though workers are told to be poite in the costumer service industry, they can't seem to grasp the idea.
EVERYONE!! - You gotta go to Japan now, to experience true customer service before it is "forgotten" as it has here in the states. It's a dying method in the customer service industry nowadays......

Majime-Seriously
(Like the word "Maji de?" You know, when someone asks "Really?"/"Are you serious?") But in this case, "majime" would work as an adjective to describe one's action. Like, he's studying seriously, and blah blah blah blah.

Tsukareta-I'm tired/exhausted/pooped

Hehe, I wish customer service in the U.S. are different. But then, maybe I am asking for too much. There are a lot of disgruntled workers here, and some of them open show their disatisfaction at their jobs. I am sure no one is completely satisfied with his/her job for one reason or another. However, people should take their job seriously. Personal reasons shouldn't interfere with work that way. It pisses me off when workers are trying to vent their stress on customers like that. But then, I guess I can't blame them sometimes, w/ all these labor disputes in certain parts of the U.S.... sad but true Sad

In polite form:

utatte imasu - I am singing.
kaimono - (n.) shopping
denwa shite imasu - talking on the phone (not sure... Sweat )
saikuringu - biking/cycling (I think...)
intaanetto de asonde imasu - playing on the internet (that sounded funny... hehe)
dokusho - (n.) reading
ongaku o kiite imasu - listening to music

Alright! I did it! Correct me if I am wrong though...

Hello, I've been following this message board for a few days now and found quite a lot of interesting stuff. I've just come back from living in Japan for a year, and I'm trying to continue learning although I find it quite difficult in terms of time and accessibility...
Anyway, I've recently started work on a helpdesk and occasionally get calls from Tokyo, but my japanese is quite casual and while I have a decent vocabulary, my sentence structure sucks...
So can anyone help me with some basic telephone manners such as:
How can I help you? (nanika tetsudau?)
Can you please hold? (shosho omachi onegai shimasu ?)
Thank you for holding (omatte se itashimashita ?)
Is there anything else? (hoka ni nanika aru ?)

any ideas at all would be appreciated...

Thank you,
Scott

"Yori" is part of the word "Yorishiku".

On another note, "yori" is a word to describe (roughly) "than".

Ex: Ima nanka, zenzen chigau mae yori.
(Now is different than before.)

No, not "yori". I just said "yori" is the first 1/2 of "yoroshiku".
The term "yori" alone means something else.

In most cases, just to be safe, "yoroshiku" will suffice.
