I'm not sure what the deal is.
After Winmx went down, I uninstalled it. Then Mixx gave me that link to reinstall. Can't though.

Hmm, that's good. Trick your computer into thinking Winmx.com is alive by changing the IP address it goes to. I think this is the missing step.

Whoa. That's some pretty high tech stuff. Never even knew you could trick your computer into thinking that a "dead" IP is "alive". Beaten

i am lost with computer tech stuff too, i think the computer tricks me most of the time... hehe

in terms of routers and adjusting the IP's, etc....i am not sure if i want to disable my firewall. If i cannot use winmx, then i will resort to just using Bittorent, ABC client prg. unless there is another way.

miracle that i even got this far..... hehe Thumbsup

Well, it's a workaround but it's actually pointing to a different machine.

There something called DNS, which translates www.somewhere.com to the actual numerical IP address 122.x.y.z. So winmx.com (which is what the program is looking for) points to some machine. Well that website goes down (probably as a result of the R I A A). Now the program has no where to go. Except there a file named hosts (or similar) on your machine. In it, you can provide your own domain name -> IP address translation. So this is what the workaround does. It prevents your computer from having to ask the translation, and temporarily allows the program to work again.

there must be a simplier way, right? I do not want to mess with my firewall. and the way i am using regular BT, shouldn't be any different..why is this asking me to test the connection? I don't remember ABC client prg BT asking for a test on connection? I had no prb's starting the BT right away, Winmx any different?

sorry aho, i havent been checking threads for a while, i have dsl too and i never installed service pack 2, anyway, the link i gave u worked on my laptop but not on my desktop, so i wasnt able to connect from that link, but when downloaded a patch from here and it started up again. its the second link i downloaded, because i dont use the stuff mentioned in the first link, so see if that helps you guys out.

BTW, 3.54 Beta has been working pretty good for me, so whichever works for you guys, the newest patch or the old version.

but if you guys are looking for japanese songs, i prefer to use soulseek, they connect faster and less problems Victory! Peace!

i deleted the previous winmx 2.54 beta version and
i downloaded the second one beta 3.53 version you told me about, but i went thru all the steps after d/l'ing, i must be doing something wrong, cause it asked me the connections i was on, i put "dsl" connection, then it tested it, and same damn result. any suggestions?

you d/l'ed the winmx 3.53 version right? i did that, followed the steps after d/l'ing the file, and asked for my connection, like last time, same result, how did you bypass all that to get it working?
Bonk

winmx sucks IMHO....just use your bit torrent client for music if that is your primary interest. there are thousands of torrents out there for japanese music. some patience and perservence will yield results. Rolling eyes

Mr Green i can also share my files with you, just add me on your list (pm me for the name)
