Some of the no name brands I was sent dont play anything at all any more. Cant be read by player or computer.

They looked they had never been written on. But I had played them several years ago. Wish I hadnt thrown them out now.

Did the computer/DVDplyer see the discs as actually being blank or they just couldn't read 'em?
What brand discs were they?

Same here. When DVD recording first became popular and available, I went cheapo in buying blanks. Those are for the most part totatlly unreadable now by any means. They do degrade over time... the later better quality ones like Sony, Verbatim and Tayo Yuden so far seem to last forever. I now make two copies of everything I want to preserve on only the best media.

Eve, I don't buy anything that is not in the top box in the table on this page.

I read elsewhere that Taiyo Yuden is the best/most reliable (expensive though), Verbatim is next best.

The TYs aren't that much more expensive when you buy a large spindle... And worth it in the long run.
I think groink likes to burn new copies every so often, but that's overkill, IMO, especially if you use quality discs to begin with.

Thanx Ralph. I also back up all my favorites with a second set. Ive never used the cheap discs myself but have received them in trades. Annoying.

My two favorites brands. But I also have found Sony, TDK, HP and Fuji very reliable. _________________

Our area has taken a dive as well, but I bought the place before the boom, so I'm still ahead.... And paying the price... Literally.

I've got a couple of beagles and we're growing corn (well, 6 stalks)... I wonder if that counts?
