Lowe's won't sell me a shop vac for their online price if I walk into the store to buy it, however if I buy it online and pick it up at the store, that's okay... How asinine is that????
LOL, dochira had a great idea: place the order by phone/online right in front of the person in customer support.

Odd question - Is online pricing cheaper because in addition to that price you are also getting charged shipping and handling? Or is it cheaper because they save on the stores' costs or saleshelp salary, etc...? Just curious.

My understanding is the latter. Because online vendors don't have the costs associated with a brick-and-mortar store they can usually pass on the savings to consumers in the form of cheaper prices. On some big ticket items like TVs and the like, some vendors even provide free shipping as an incentive to buy...that coupled with the fact that you may be buying from a vendor in another state also means you would not have to pay sales tax on your purchase either.

Thanks for your answer Tu_triky! So now I understand why the person in the vitamin store told you that he couldn't compete with the online prices. Basically if the vitamin store wants to make a profit they have to charge more than the online price. Is that correct?

That is my understanding, Enna. Somebody feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
But 'racer, brings up a good point...they couldn't even match the prices on their own website which is what baffled ME.

Me too.
And you don't have to deal with dopey store personnel.
Seriously. Good point. Save yourself the time and headache of having to interact with many people who are ill informed about what they are trying to sell or don't seem to care in the alternative.
Customer Service in America sucks b*lls.
After a visit to Japan, you will scoff at what passes for customer service here. It is seriously laughable.

From what I've read and heard, yeah... The customer really is number one.

Even at the local conbeni (convenience stores such as Lawsons, 7-11, or AM/PM) the service is awesome. In general, the customer service is so superlative, in comparison to what we experience here many times, it takes a bit getting used to!
