Don't worry dude. If lucky for you ProActive will help you out.
For me, I go to skin doctor and he say I got a severe case of Acne.
I'm taking Acutane and it worked. Acne hasn't come back yet. My face cleared up. I asked him what are my chances of acne coming back after i stop taking medicine, he says 60-70%. Something like that
I wish you the best of luck KT, I have been battling acne since I was around 14 (I'm 25 now).
Oh man, I could talk about my trials with acne all damn day. Most of my teen years I spent on the "cyclines" (antibiotics). RetinA was horrible and felt like fire. Differen did nothing. RetinA-micro worked pretty well, but I was on that after my 1st round of Accutane. Desquam E, I was on that for a long time. But it had 10% benzoyl peroxide so it bleached so much of my clothing, towels, and sheets. Keep that in mind for Proactive. Proactive has 2.5% of benzoyl peroxide. So, it can bleach your stuff but hopefully not as easily as the higher %'s. If over-the-counter benzoyl doesn't work, Proactive probably won't b/c over-the-counter tends to be 10%. No matter how careful you are w/ the benzoyls, stuff still gets bleached after you shower, sweat, etc.
I went on Accutane TWICE. And I still get acne. Accutane DOES work very well. After a while I didn't even need anything topical while on the 6 month treatment. But, the bloodwork every 2-3 weeks absolutely blows. And, it's a dangerous drug. You can't give blood for 6-12 months after stopping treatment. It affects liver function. Your cholesterol can sky-rocket (this is part of the required blood work). For girls, you are strongly advised not to get pregnant while it's in your system. The baby is guaranteed to be severely deformed if it even survives. There are a lot of possible side effects too. I was pretty lucky, but the second time my cholesterol went pretty high, but not high enough to stop. I was advised not to take a 3rd treatment to not risk it.
Usually my first breakout post-Accutane would happen within the first 4-6 months. However, it wasn't as bad as before I used Accutane. Accutane is no cure for everyone, though. Some lucky people never break out again. I wasn't one of those. But, following Accutane you are very likely to respond well to regular treatments that didn't work before (antibiotics and topical lotions). Accutane gets you all the way clear so you can get control of the problem before it gets bad again.
I think my second treatment of Accutane was late 2002. After that, I survived a Japanese summer (rainy season, ridiculous heat and humidity) without a breakout, but I had other meds w/ me. My breakouts would tend to be bad in summer. I got no treatment for 2 years. Now I'm back on antibiotics and topicals. It really hasn't been that bad since the second round, but I chose to go back to the dermo. Under control, though.
Btw, acne is one of the things that bothers me most.

Woah! You've been to alot of treatments for those acne. So, is it completely treated now?
As for me, I used Equate cream and those 2 pimples are gone in just 4 days . But a new one is coming out though . _________________

Yeah, it's been under control for some time now (several years). Not completely gone though. Occasionally I break out, but not nearly as bad as when I was like 14-16. Hahaha, don't worry, I haven't had a breakout that was nearly as bad as some of the people in the Accutane pamphlets. I didn't look like a freak of nature or anything. I was never that bad. My acne was just stubborn and didn't really respond as well as hoped to antibiotics and topicals so my doctor opted to try Accutane.

Yeah, no need to cry over a couple pimples, ne?
Nah, it never crossed my mind that your case is the same as to those people in Accutane pamphlets. It's not like there are too many dots throughout your face, right? Maybe yours is just like mine, just a pimple or two, occasionally, but takes more than a week before it disappears. But even though it's not that worse, it still bothers me . _________________

you guys may want to try something with Salicylic Acid, Neutrogena Facial Wash has some of it in there. Helped me out quite a bit.
You can get a higher % facial wash from your dermatologist.

Yes Salicylic Acid is very good for helping to keep the skin clear! Noxzema makes an astringent called "Triple Clean" with salicylic acid in it that you can get in your local drug store also.
I thought Acutane had some negative side effects on some ppl who experiened severe depression when they took it. See this:

I'm hopeful too, for both of us, b/c acne totally sucks. I was diagnosed w/ severe too, but it was mainly just stubborn, not cysts or anything. Since I'm pale, the main thing that bothered me was the red spots that stay for a while after the pimple is inactive.
If you've had it for years, I'd say be prepared to get back on some other kind of treatment after your Accutane. Don't give it the chance to come back or else you might be on Accutane again. You still might need a second round, but if you can avoid it, try to. Many people talk like this is a cure-all, but more and more people I've heard from have had 2 or 3 rounds of Accutane and still get acne. I feel like Accutane is just to clear fully so you can maintain it with other easier and safer methods that didn't fully clear you before. I think acne is mostly genetic and/or hormonal so it's a matter of gaining control and then maintaining.
