Did you try to plug it to another LCD or CRT monitor? If you still have the same problem, then it's your video card. I think it can be replace if it's not on the motherboard. _________________

Good point.
Though it seems unlikely that the stripe is video card related...

Apple Powerbook. I'm sorta concerned, because when I bought the lappy, with all the stuff I put into it, cost a lil' over $4000. And I have a 17" monitor. I think this repair will definitely put me below the poverty line...
Only 2 years? If it's available in Canada, did you get Applecare?
If you live near a Apple Store, take it to the genius bar, and they'll look at it for free. They'll probably tell you to have them work it over...

I don't think I got Applecare, and if it did, it prolly expired.
I live about half an hour away from an Apple store, I believe. What's Genius Bar?
I plan to take it in on the weekend. At this rate I don't mind how much it'll cost. I just don't want it to get worse. My biggest concern is that they'll say they can't fix it. _________________

Applecare is 2 or 3 years, i forget...
The Genius bar is the bar in the store where one of the techs is there answer questions, he's usually the one who starts repair process.
What 17" model do you have? There's tutorials online on how to take a powerbook apart, the display ribbon is pretty easy to replace.. saw some on ebay for $25

Alrighty. I always get frustrated when I go in for repairs because no one evah has any idea what I'm talking about. Hopefully this really is a damaged ribbon and hopefully they'll know how to handle it. Thanky!

Yikes! I definitely don't have the courage/confidence to fix it myself. But if it's that easy to fix, then I feel a bit better. Hopefully this will cease to be a problem. Thanks a lot for your help.

A lot of places rely on the fact that you don't know much about those things to charge you a lot for repairs. If you know what you're talking about, they will usually not overcharge
