You mean Spot wouldn't want to just sit on my lap? I gotta spring for a plane ticket too? Or is that just your sneaky way of joining our trip? _________________

Okay, we've drifted off topic long enough, folks.................
Oops, sorry! I bet it bothers you that I always seem to be contributing to the off-topicness.
Anyways, back on topic: I'm really bothered by the CD mix I'm trying to make for someone. I take at least 3 hours to do so because I'm worrying about what kind of music they'd like, the order of the songs, and trying to find the damn CDs which are scattered around and in unlabeled boxes or trying to find the mp3s, which are all on data discs. I really shouldn't offer to do these things. _________________

Gomen, b-san. It bothers me that I lead others astray in off-topicness...
Also, the party last night, next door, for my neighbour's 15 year old's birthday party.
Neigbour's 15 year old to mum: "Can my friends bring alcohol? Their parents let them drink"
Mum: "NO!"
Neigbour's 15 year old to mum: "Well then, will you buy me a 6-pack of Vodka cruisers?"
Mum: "NO!"
Later, outside the neighbour's place:
Neigbour's 15 year old's friend: "I've lost my F****** smokes!"

Over at the "What are you watching now" thread there were a few comments about how annoying it is when fan subbers drop a series in the middle.
I wanted to say somehting about that, but I figured this was a better thread to use.
About fan subbers dropping a series... of course I get annoyed. I depend on the subs to understand the shows.
But I do understand that subbing a show is mostly hard, time consuming work and drudgery, with no reward in sight other than a feeling of accomplishment.
So if folks decide to stop subbing a show, or are forced through circumstances to stop subbing the show... that's life. No hard feelings. Thanks for the portion you did do. Thanks for trying. I appreciate the effort.
The only thing I'd ask is that you put up a notification that you're dropping the project so there's a chance someone else will pick it up. Because according to the unwritten code of the fan subbers... no other fan subber can touch a show if someone else has claimed to be subbing it. Or working on it. Even if they haven't produced any subs for it in months.
What does annoy the beejeesus out of me is the snottyness the prickliness the ungraciousness of some of the fan subbers.
The following (I decided to leave the names out because I'm not just pointing fingers at these particular people. I just thought they were good examples of what I'm talking about.) is an exchange I saw on a subbing thread and a notice I saw on a different thread.

Hi!
I want to give a BIG arigatougozaimasu to (names of subbers edited out) Furthermore, I would also like to offer you a propositionc
First of all, I would like to commemorate you all on the wonderful and speedy subtitling jobs you have done. It is wonderful to know that we non-Japanese speaking fans can now enjoy Japanese dramas with the help of your hard work. I thank all of you sincerely. Now, I hope I donft seem ungrateful, snobbish or too critical by saying this, but I caught a couple of errors in your subs. Donft get me wrong, I can completely understand that, because you were putting such valiant efforts into making these subs available to us as quickly as possible, a couple of errors are to be expected in the process; therefore, I wanted to offer up my services if possible. I hope you donft get offended by this, especially you, (name edited out by Geezer) (being that you are the editor). I am in no way claiming you are incompetent or not suited for the job. Itfs just that, being that I am a very meticulous person when it comes to small details (especially English grammatical issues) I think my proof-reading skills may come in handy. For example, I can be your test audience, if you will. If you want some proof of my observational talent, I can point out things such as: in your subs for episode 03 of Yama Onna Kabe Onna, one of Aoyagi Megumifs lines was omitted at approximately frame 00:04:28 (the scene where Megumi and Marie are shopping for bathing suits). Itfs just simple things like this that I may help you with, if itfs not too audacious of me to suggest. Again, I am in no way professing to be more of an expert than anyone working on this project, but would simply like to help you out. Once more, I am truly grateful for your hard work, and I am sorry if this message is in any way offensive to any of you. If you are interested in my help, please feel free to contact me and I will do my best to give you a speedy reply. Thanks again.

.... you know (name edited out by Geezer) did ep3 for around half a day straight, i didnt want to bother him anymore after he finished it, so i just let it be.. before posting such comments and being your first post, please think before posting.
im ignoring you now..
One of these two people was being thoughtless, childish, and rude. And from my point of view, it wasn't the original poster. He/she might have "over stepped" according to the "unwritten code of the fan subber", but I've never seen anyone work so hard to avoid causing offense.
The other example is a notice put up in bold red letters at the beginning of a different sub thread:
Quote:
ENGLISH SUBTITLES:
(Rule Regarding Subtitles @ Mar 9 2006, 11:08 PM):
One Person Asking or Complaining About Subs = One Hour Delay of Release
Therefore if 24 people whine, the subs will be delayed a complete day.
A threat?! You're threatening me?
Hey! Keep your damned subs, and stick your little power trip up sideways!
I understand that it can be annoying when one or two yahoos (out of a couple of thousand) pipe up with their "Hey! Hurry Up! Where's the subs?!?!? I'm getting tired of waiting!" posts.
But the graceless responses from some of the fan subbers (and the snapping of their self appointed defenders) is getting out of hand. _________________

^ That's really sad about the fansubbers vs. the viewers thing, but I can understand both sides. What the fansubbers do is really time-consuming and despite all their efforts, there's bound to be mistakes if they're not careful. I guess to have it pointed out to them is like a blow to their ego, so with all the time they put into the subbing, editing, etc, they might feel frustrated. Still, it is pretty childish to punish people by releasing the episodes later.
Then again, I understand how the fans feel, wanting the best quality subs they can get. It's instances like this when softsubs should be a must so people can edit them to their hearts' desire.
But anyway....what's annoying me right now are these $%^&$W#* calls from 1-800 numbers. I've had 2 of them already today and I'm wondering why these ^%$&*@#* don't have Sunday off. _________________
