KUSANO would be great, maybe some other NEWS members could be in it? like i can imagine tegoshi as the cute one who everyoen loves, kinda like koike teppei in gokusen 2 _________________
Wow...I just finished watching Gokusen and Matsujun looks so cooooool!!!!! Honestly speaking, I didn't really like him before (wait till I finish angry fans!) but now I do! He's so cool!
I like him too. I have a big Matsu Jun picture on my monitor now. He's sooo COOL! _________________

In response to the whole MatsuJun as Sawada Shin vs. Yukie as Yankumi case:
As a manga reader, I can tell you that the first thing I'm attracted to is not how a character looks (although it helps), but his plain old character. Sawada Shin, for me, is an intriguing and complicated guy. The guards he puts up emotionally outward but the passion that he holds on the inside, his perspective on the authoritative roles in his life, his family..... Although I regret to say that I didn't read the manga before watching the drama (and I'm being honest here where I could have lied to strengthened my case), I feel certain that I would have liked him from the start if I had.
And as a manga reader, I often get comments from others telling me I'm strange for liking a person who is only 2-D. Even with literary book characters, people think it is odd that I simply like an idea of a person. Sawada is just the type of guy that I would be attracted to in real life because I see him as a challenge (dalinee, where are you? I need back up on this!). Just as I would want to break a guy out of his shell in r/l and talk to me, as an audience member you are just compelled to want to watch him open up. However, the time it takes and the very few visual instances we see of this change taking place makes it frusterating!
The silent and cool outside but with a brain and emotions underneath is a stereotypical character, but the naturalness of the character growth that Shin goes through makes him more memorable than the rest who remain static or become to overly emotional by the end.
And when an actor like MatsuJun brings this particular character to life in the way that he did, it's wonderful to watch. To see MatsuJun execute Shin's subtle and gradual change was beautifully done where a lot of other actors could have horribly failed. MatsuJun is not just eye candy. He has facial expressions and eyes that can convey so much in just one glance. Yes, I am openly admitting that Jun's good looks help in his acting because it flat out DOES.
That is why MatsuJun as Sawada Shin is a viable main character to play off of Yankumi. Yukie's portrayal of this character was excellent as well. The emotion in her voice in combination with her powerful beauty/boderline cuteness makes Yukie a great actress in this role. However, in my opinion Yankumi remains more grounded than Sawada. This is not necessarily a bad thing, as she remains the constant to change Sawada, the 3-D students, the faculty, and everyone around her. Her character is strong and solid, never wavering until the end where the ones Yankumi have changed come back to remind her of who she is and the impact she has had on everyone. It's a great circle, and one that GTO lacks.
SPOILERS
Major EDIT: However, in Gokusen 1, Sawada's vital leadership role in class plus his care for his freinds help bring together Class 3-D with Yankumi, who in turn, brought them closer to the faculty and Japanese society. Another circle. There is much more sense of a community within this drama than GTO and (from what I hear) Gokusen 2. The commrodery between the students of 3-D also mirrors the yakuza gang society that Yankumi has been brought up in and is trying to escape, making it more enjoyable to watch her step into a gang leader position almost unwittingly. It's a irony that makes the show great.
[Yes, the good-teacher-helps-bad-student/school is seemingly unoriginal, but it's the way that it is done is what counts. Both GTO and Gokusen 1 have different elements that make both justifiably popular and different dramas. Neither is a rip-off of the other.]
This is why I agree with Rebekah (who so elegantly testified her own case) and say that Gokusen 1 is a success because of BOTH dynamic characters/actors who interact most naturally with each other and the rest of the cast. Vacuum stories are dead stories. Granted, there are moments when each actor's acting makes you want to cringe, but they more than make up for it in the overall peformance.
As for Gokusen 2, I cannot say since I haven't seen a lot of it, but to me it looks like it focuses too much on the interaction of two male leads (which IS fanservice, and I admit I would enjoy it ).
Sorry if I seemed to repeat stuff or talk in circles, this is just how I think.
i really really hope there is a season 3 w/shin bac and maybe more characters....cross my fingers...there were rumors about there being a 3 ..but who knows.....maybe they will do a movie for gokusen and some of the old actors from season 1 can come bac...hehe especially shin...

I was told that Kusano Hironori of NewS was possibly gonna be in the (possibly to be) Gokusen 3. But I dunno rumors go around and are never solved... _________________

just like i don't really like nakie. she overacts even in her 'overacting' sometimes...
So your entire reason for watching Gokusen was Matsumoto, ne?
I don't dislike Matsumoto 'cause he's a guy. I just don't don't think his character is very original.
In fact, Yukie-chan's character isn't particularly original, either, but the Yakuza twist and her silly, almost tongue-in-cheek performance deserves kudos.

i agree...they all had already graduated.. so,it's not logic for them to bring all the characters from gokusen 1... however, i hope they can put jun back...so, the story between yankumi n him will continue.. who knows.. jun comes back...for a while.. visiting or something..

At least if there'd be plans for a third season, I hope they'd come up with something new like Yankumi being married or coming back *gasp* to the ol Yakuza gang

er... actually i got into matsumoto AFTER gokusen.
i've never heard of him before this dorama. i think many of us are like that. so i couldn't have watched it for him. so at least my views on g1 is objective, if not the later stuff on him, to be fair.
i bought this dvd series coz i was bored and wanted a 'brainless comedy' (that's what i asked the shopkeeper ) for a change and stumbled onto this gem.
i think both him and nakie are great and you can't replace any of them for g1. else it wouldn't be g1...
i don't think both their characters or the story in itself is original. most mangas either have a cool complex hero or a cool complex heroine anyway. and this has both... ...still, stereotypical.
i was impressed that such a slapstick, stereotype drama could be so memorable and yet different in its genre. i think matsumoto and yukie made it outstanding. more so matsumoto for me subjectively.

omg... i found this little oddball writeup...
i was suddenly inspired to look up for some gokusen stuff on the net and guess what weird write up/rumour i found?
it says that "2 years ago while doing gokusen, she (nakie) and jun took their romantic 'reel life' to 'real life'. Johnny was furious and put heavy pressures for both of them to stop, so the 2 of them had to stamp out whatever feelings they had for each other."
geez... is it true??
are there write ups anywhere else about this?
i've always been curious if jun had a love life...

Thanks fybabe for the applause.
And I heard somewhere before that the two actually were living together, and that even though everyone assumed it was romantic they said it wasn't and that MatsuJun "just needed a place to say."
However, I thought that was just a rumor. I didn't think it could actually be true!
My understanding is that Johnny's boys are contractually obligated to avoid having a public love life so they appear available to the female fans. But I'd be surprised if he could prevent them from having a private love life. Perhaps if Jun in fact was living with Yukie, Johnny WOULD be furious, then, because his love life would be public, right? That makes sense. But I don't know if that's a rumor or the truth...
