Hi blaupunkt Smile ,

I think Yada Akiko is playing in dorama called "NO LOVER" (Koi wo nan nen sundemasu ka?)", alongside such artistes like : Iijima Naoko, Kuroki Hitomi, Koizumi Kyoko.

It's a new drama (previous season dorama) and already available in English subtitled VCD.
Not yet watched it, but I love to see it maybe someday.

hello KiTHuNg

most sorry about this late reply! and most sorry i forgot to include the url from which i obtained the ratings information.

http://www.videor.co.jp/data/ratedata/r_index.htm

the page is in japanese. it would be best if you could get someone who knows japanese to let you know how the ratings are exactly worked out.

generally, as advised by a friend who lives in tokyo, japan is divided into smaller areas (eg. nagoya) from which a certain number of households per area are selected for the ratings measure. i've heard some things about the way the measurement is done, but since i can't work it out for myself in such a way as to understand it clearly, i won't confuse you with the details.

like yourself, i wanted to know how representative these ratings were of how popular a drama was. at this point, as far as i can ascertain, i would say there is some factual truth to these ratings in terms of if you like X drama so so much, then you would make the effort to watch it no matter what. it captures this group of viewers. so yes, defined in the sense of "most watched", the ratings do count for something.

btw, video research is a well known company. the ratings it has been providing carries a fair amount of clout.

best ... ml

p/s - i would also like to know "how many people" the percentages represent Smile but not a clue! only can tell you there are about 120 million people in the japanese population. so just go with what your instincts tell you is good ne, and certainly yamato was one tremendous drama.

gomenne, this is the best i have for you right now Sad

I really liked the story, actors, and theme song. And also several of the other stewardesses in "Yamato" who are rarely mentioned in posts about this dorama: spunky Sudo Risa, the featured actress/tomboy in the much-beloved NHK morning serial "Ten Urara"-- who looks quite different in her role here; and also the beautiful "JAL girl" (I forget her name) from all the JAL TV commercials that we see here in California--she has just a few speaking parts in Yamato. Both were among the crowd of stewardesses always following Nanako in the airport or in the restaurants. I also liked the ending a lot...

I think this show showed the everyone that Nanako can act! She has the full range. Just look at all her roles in shows like Ice world, GTO, Story of one Centry, Innocent Witch and then this comedy. She shined in this drama and she is one of the best.

Talking about the cast. Azuma Mikihisa who played the rich doctor in Nadeshiko also played another doctor in last season's Star Struck. The bride in that show also backout on him during the wedding! Talk about type casting...

The "JAL girl" is Kaori Itakura. I'm from NYC and we get her over here too.

Sudo, I think, is prettier than Yada. They also tagged in Rasen (although Sudo was killed off after 3 episodes).

Yes, i think..

Midsummer Snow is also known as Merry Christmas in Midsummer(starring Yutaka Takenouchi & Miki Nakatani)[If I'm not mistaken. I'm not, right?]
Whilst Summer Snow is Summer Snow larr(starring Tsuyoshi Domoto & Ryoko Hirosue)
Both have different plot .. so..
enjoy the show!

yamato and summer snow (at least i THINK you're referring to this one) are both great love dramas. i liked both of them, but some of my friends didn't like yamato because nanako portrayed a female "playa".

personally, i think she acted extremely well because she played the role of the playa, but she also did it in a way that showed she had a conscience, you'll understand what i mean if you watch it.

you can't go wrong with either Smile

Summer snow is not even in the same class!

Look at these points:
Production - Look and feel of the dorama. Summer snow looked cheap!
Script - Yamato Nadeshiko is such a rollercoaster ride! SS is predictable!
Cast - Yamato Nadeshiko had the top notch Big Guns!
Music - Misia's title song was a big hit worldwide

Production - Both of em were good! Yamato had richer location! Bigger budget! Busy city with busy ppl.
Summer Snow location fits perfectly to its theme, a peaceful town where ppl know each other. Warm and cloudy climate.

Script - Actually Yamato was more predictable than Summer Snow! The poor wasn't that poor at the end and then happy endin- thing. Summer
Snow was sad and had its happy moments too.

Cast - Yamato had a bigger "star", Nanako herself. Sosuke only whined, not much of progress from him. Akiko Yada was overshadowed by Nanako! Liked Kasuya's part, hehe. Especially the scenes where he jumped on to that Hanabusa guy over the girl-issue.

Liked Domoto's role as a careful big brother of the two siblings. His additive method was quite old fashion. Yes, have to admit that Ryoko didn't do her best at actin. The other actors/actresses did a great job!

Music - You mean nationwide? Misia's song was ok, repetitive and got annoyed.
Summer Snow theme song was a true masterpiece! Applaud
So much of warmt and feeling the singer ,Sissel, did for the series!

Both of em are good! Both series have its different meanings, Yamato about money and Summer Snow life!
Yes, I enjoyed watchin both of em!

BTW
the thread starter was talkin about "Merry Christmas in Summer" aka "Midsummer Snow", not Summer Snow.
hehe

I would give this a 7/10, relative to the 4-5 jdoramas i've seen, with gto being 10 Smile

anyway...is it just me, or was anyone attracted to Mariko? Osuke's friend's wife (Tamehisa Sakuma's)

I liked how realistic Mariko and Osuke's relationship was. If only he would have acted faster, he could've gotten her. The writers intelligently put in subtle remarks on their relationship, like that metal plate from Hokkaido. I wish he would've gotten with her in the first place Sad It's obvious that there's still attraction between the two, but she acts more as a friend now so Osuke can be happy too. maybe i like her chracter so much because I'd like to be with Mariko myself. She seems like the perfect kind of gf/wife/companion.

anyway...gotta go back to doing hw Sweat tell me what you thinK!

I would give it higher than 7/10, around a 9/10. You just need to watch more mediocre and bad dramas to appreciate the good ones. Osuke's relationship with Mariko was interesting but IMO, there was no need to elaborate on it as Osuke's already got relationship with 2 other women. I can't believe that she allows her husband to go to goukons with his friends. Anyone know where I can find such a wife? Smile

Personally, I was rooting for Akiko Yada (the air stewardess). IMO, she nearly stole the show from Matsushima Nanako.

yeah, maybe I underrated the show. I'll say 8/10, because "To Heart" wasn't good to me at all. TOo unrelaistic and annoying.

Anyway, Wakaba from Y.N. was just cute to me, I pitied her. I'd take her any day though...hahah..

but i still like mariko. it seemed his relationship with her was most interesting to me.
