Yup, I agree with you. I would not want to watch it over and over again..it's too depressing. However, the actors in Mystic River are bloody good which I think it will be a tight competition between Watanabe and Robbins. Still, I hope Watanabe will win the race (fingers crossed).

Not only for the BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR, The Last Samurai is also nominated for BEST ART DIRECTION, BEST COSTUME DESIGN, and BEST SOUND

Congrats Watanabe san! , After watching the film, I really thought that the title 'Last Samurai' actually refers to Katsumoto and his men.... not Algren.

About The Twilight Samurai, it's not a good film, it's.......... a GREAT film !. It deserves all the awards it's nominated upon.

...... and somehow reminds me of Rurouni Kenshin : Meiji Kenkaku Romantan.... | |

Hmm, I don't recall a thread about Samurai/Martial Arts films... You might try searching first, though.

Alec Baldwin - The Cooler

Benicio Del Toro - 21 Grams

Horrible, I know that Ken Watanabe was the best actor. WEll lets hope for the best. The other actors didn't do good in the other movies my opinon.. | |

To be totally fair, Benicio del Toro already has an Academy Award for Traffic, and I think Djimon Hounsou has been nominated as well... But I agree with you that I'd love to see Watanabe-san win the Oscar...

What surprises me is that someone would go the theater and pay to see the movie so many times... Here in the U.S. that total cost would be about $250-$300, based on our ticket prices...

I'd wait until it came out on DVD and buy it for $20 and watch it until I was blue in the face...
