Makai Tensho? I think there are two versions of that..the one with Shinichi "Sonny" Chiba, Tomisaburo Wakayama, Hiroyuki "Henry" Sanada, Tetsuro Tamba made in 1981 and the remake of it around 2002 (Kubozuka Yosuke, Kato Masaya et al)..Haven't seen both though, better check it both!

Yah the casting for the '81 seems very good... but i the download of the movie is not complete yet so i have only manage to watch the
'03 one... and i would say that it is definetely worth watching... supernatural + samurai , can't go wrong with that...

Hey every-1
I heard they are making a new movie on ZATOICHI.

I think it's starring Beat Takeshi.
I remember watching one of his films where he helps this little kid get to his grandma's home somewhere.
It was a pretty good movie.

Yep. It was mentioned somewhere on another thread... I can't imagine anyone else as Zatoichi other than Katsu Shintaro... Smile

Hehe...I don't know whether Kitano is good as Zatoichi. I have to see it first..my zatoichi DVD will be arriving from Japan next month.. Mr Green

Has anybody ever seen Ame Agaru (after the rain) that's also Samurai film, I just want to know whether it's good or not (since I have the intention of buying it on DVD)...

AME AGARU (AFTER THE RAIN)
Based on the last screenplay written by the late legendary Akira Kurosawa. This is a beautifully shot film with a quiet and yet moving story that shed light on a Samurai's life. Directed by Takashi Koizumi who worked as Kurosawa's assistant director for 28 years. Starring Akira Terao, Yoshiko Miyazaki, Shiro Mifune, et al. This marks Koizumi's directorial debut.

The first one that I recall and have seen is Inagaki Hiroshi's Samurai Trilogy (available on Criterion DVD) starring the legendary Mifune Toshiro in the mid 1950's. It's basically three individual movies: Miyamoto Musashi, Ichijoji no Ketto (Duel at Ichijoji Temple), and Ketto Ganryu-jima (Duel on Ganryu Island)...

The second Musashi I recall is a series of films (4 or 5, I think) starring Nakamura Kinnosuke in the early 1960's...

The third one I remember was a muilti-part TV series starring Yakusho Koji in the late 1970's...

And the most recent one is the NHK taiga drama Musashi starring Ichikawa Shinnosuke and my beloved Ryoko-chan... Smile I think Groink has this 49-part series available for purchase or trade, but you should contact him to make sure...

just watched gojoe and red shadow about 2 days ago...

Gojoe was quite good... well i felt that the story was kinda lacking but the cinematography was fantastic... it is actually based on real historical happenings though not potrayed with 100% accuracy... but overall i felt it was worth watching...

Red shadow... man that was dissapointing i watched it for about 30 minutes before i decided to turn it off... man there is no real feel to the movie at all... they went to far with the mtv style with those techno music and superhuman jump everywhere... the girl was hot though hehehe... but just not my type of movie i guess...

for the moment i m waiting for Zatoichi (Beat Takeshi's one) to finish downloading... really anticipating this one... and for the moment i m reading manga about Miyamoto Musashi - Vagabond a real interesting read... and also another samurai fiction Blade of The Immortal about this rouge samurai who can't die : )

in terms of wuxia style movies. i would recommend Stormriders and the Legend of Zu. they both use CG but it's not overdone.

in terms of fantasy martial arts, i would recommend Storm Riders and the Legend of Zu. they both have a good plots (which is rare in these types of movies) and cast of characters.

I don't pretty much like the Legend of Zu remake in 2000. Too many CG and it really affected the whole story. For people who never heard or known of Legend Zu's all about will get confused. Was it Tsui Hark who directed that movie? hmm..I guess it was him. It was a total messed according to my point of view. He could've make it better, besides he got all the great casts in that movie which I think he should've considered to put less CG.

As for Storm Riders..that's a great movie. I really like it a lot. I've not seen the series but I'm really looking forward to see the series version anyway. Thinking that Chao We Chuo acting as Wind? hehehe..Ekin is way way better...while Aaron..he's great as Cloud.

HUAAAA..I've not been here in ages..The thread that I've created!!!

Thanks for resurrecting it again bmwracer oneesan!!

Waaa..Bruce Lee digitaly remastered!! Beaten I want the enter the dragon..hmm..must save money to buy!

Btw, I've seen THE HOUSE OF FLYING DAGGER. It was good and as usual. The martial arts scene was something that I've never expected. It's better than Crouching Tiger although for the story line I prefer crouching tiger.
Cinematography wise as usual Zhang Yi Mou has shown it wonderfully, like HERO, he made a lot of color contrast in every scene. It's a must see Martial Arts Film!! Applaud

Call me oldschool, but I don't like CG and SFX in my martial arts movies. I'm a fan of old Jackie Chan and Jet Li movies like Drunken Master 2 and Fist of Legend. The recent Legend of Zu was pretty bleh to me (except for ZZY *hides from Akakage*) I also thought Storm Riders was just ok, but much better than Zu. Its really a shame that old-school fighting has faded away only to be replaced by superficial effects and the trademark frenetic Hollywood camera editing that makes even boring scenes, like people eating at a table, look like a fight scene. -_-;
