Enter the Dragon is a good movie, but I'd pick The Way of the Dragon or Fist of Fury as the best.

mvc hides from me..hehhee..rofl you're funny!

The House of Flying Daggers have minimal SFX believe me I've been watching martial films for years!!! their fighting scenes were great. I'm very objective zzy is always good in fighting scene except for the acting..she has the same ol' role like Crouching Tiger..you know the usual angry pouty and sometime gentle type of character. Sorry to say..i'd really like to smack her for having the chance to smooch TWO HUNKS being Andy Lau and Takeshi ..Here's for Zhang Zi Yi Beat You '
Sorry mvc.. Beaten I gotta do that to her.. hehe

Yeah, they've been showing it at a couple of arthouse theaters here in SoCal... And eBay already had DVDs available before the theaters started showing it! Shocked

Ziyi = Lovey Eyes

Takeshi's Zatoichi was really weird. It was sort of a dark comedy. Never watched any of the other Zatoichi stuff. I still need to watch Azumi. Big Grin

Katsu Shintaro's Zatoichi is comedic at times as well, but he's deadly as hell with that cane sword...

Azumi was good but I still think Zatoichi was better. I've watched the old Zatoichi flick but cannot seem to recall much since I was only small when I watched that. Hehe..a twelve year old girl was watching a blind man slicing and dicing ppl around like yakiniku..hahaha..But don't worry I watched it with my father back then. I should re-watch the whole series to fully understand how cool zatoichi was!!

Katsu was a real clown at times. I like the old Zatoichi better! Smile

Oh, me too... I can't envision anyone else as Zatoichi, even though I've heard that Takeshi's movie is quite good.

I'm being a total snob about not watching Takeshi's version of Zatoichi.

First because I'm looney about Shintaro's Zatoichi. It's his role. He created it. He was the reason it worked, and it worked in a couple of dozen Zatoichi films, and over 100 episodes of the TV show.

And second because I just do not like Beat Takeshi movies.

Though I do think the story about how Takeshi got the rights to the story is hilarious. Something about Shintaro giving the rights to the character to the owner of a bar (or night club) to pay off his tab. And then Takeshi buying them from her.

Pure Shintaro.

Haha..I cannot compare because I could not remember about Shintaro Katsu..just like I said before I need to reminisce all of them. But I always believe the original version on any movie should be far more better than the remake.

I'm like you Aka. Saw one a long time ago so don't really remember much about the movie and haven't seen the remake yet! Sweat

hehe I've seen about 14 of the original 26 zatoichi movies ... and I won't stop until I've seen them ALL! hehe

I haven't seen any of the TV shows. Sad

As for Kitano's movie. I'd say it's worth seeing for the direction, which I think is very good. His character is different, but as long as you buy into that, it's a good movie.

Vibus,

Re: the Real Zatoichi...

I have 18 of the original movies.

I've seen 20 of them.

I have 2 I've never seen on order from Netflix.

I'm working on it.

I haven't seen any of the TV episodes either... and I've never seen any for sale. So I kind of think of them as a lost cause.

Yow, I'm a ways behind: I've only got two Zatoichi DVDs... But I did see a majority of them in the theater when I was a kid... Big Grin

Not a big fan of the new Zatoichi. I think severely overrated by most. It is a very nice cinematographic achievement, but questionable choices in the storyline mire it in conventionalism (The song and dance at the end?).

That's sounds weird... But Takeshi's always been off-beat (no pun intended)...
