Yes, I've seen her in Suekko & she was amazing in that drama. Totally different, pretty & sweet in a tomboyish way. Her in that Santa suit was hilarious - especially when the small boy peered underneath her skirt!! Then there was Koyuki in the construction worker attire. She just blended into the scene & I was rolling away when her colleague asked her to put out her hands & gave her the candies. Her expression of amazement at the genoristy as well as her surprise at seeing the candies which were obviously partially eaten! Koyuki in Suekko was funny & adorable. I think without her, the drama would not have been so funny, eh?

yup, she did great in suekko chonnin...

I don't know how many times I've said this, but yes Koyuki's a pretty cool actress. She has the looks & style, but most important she has the talent to do a variety of roles - comedy (Suekko), serious (Laundry, Beautiful Life, Mukodono), romance (Kimi, Boku), geeky (Engine, Tentai). As you can see, she does not have many drama credits as compared to others but in that short span of time (1999-2005), her progress has been fantastic. What's more, she also acts in films at both local & international level. So the only thing that's dissapointing to her fans is the small number of acting roles that she's taken so far as compared to her CM work. We simply must see more of her acting eh?

Don't know if that's her own magazine but she is on the cover every month, perhaps she has a long term contract. Anyway, isn't it wonderful. We'll get to see her throughout the year.

I read somewhere in Japan Times that right now, her Vierra CM is very much discussed. Some viewers were upset that she potrayed herself that way (crawling on all fours), calling her a disgrace to other women by allowing herself to be used in a sexist advertisement. But others were more sympathetic. It seems that 'Vierra' refers to Cat people, so that's why she was potrayed as a cat. As for me, I felt weird seeing her in that CM. But apart from that she looked so stunningly beautiful.

Since I'm such an avid fan of her, I'm trying to learn some Japanese writing so that I'm able to have more info on her. It's so difficult to get her stuff in English. Hope others can help me too here. Thanks.

I read somewhere that Koyuki has no intention of making it big in hollywood. Could it be that her relationship with Sakaguchi Kenji is getting serious? Saw that piece of news on a certain website. Any comments?

Koyuki's latest film, Always Sanchome was one of the films showcased in the recent Tokyo International Film Festival. It is a period film & was praised for being well researched, making the film very authentic to reflect the time era of the story which was in 1958. Koyuki attended a press conference prior to the screening of the film as well as attending the opening ceremony & the 'red carpet' star walk. During the press conference, she gave a short but commendable comments on her role in the film as well as her feelings about it. She looked a bit tired but beautiful nevertheless in her simple red dress and high boots. However for the 'red carpet' walk, she was in a black gown & looked very energised & poised. She was one of the prettier actresses but overall the most poised and graceful than the others, certainly showing her 'starlet' aura. Perhaps, her modeling years helped her in looking so graceful and beautiful. It was unfortunate Kudo Shizuka (a.k.a Mrs Takuya) was an exact contrast to Koyuki. See the clip & you'll know what I mean.

I also saw her latest cm for panasonic viera where she appears as an olympic goddess. She was stunning & flawless as usual. Can't wait to see more of her work in the next few months.

I read somewhere on apple daily ( 2/11/05 issue), that apparently Koyuki has broken up with Sakaguchi Kenji. They broke up in July and the reasons cited was that they were to busy with their careers hence leading to their breakup. They are still friends though.

Saw a piece of news that our dear Koyuki chan won an award for best jewelry dress award but it didn't come with an accompanying picture of her. Can anyone post something on this, perhaps with a nice picture as well. I also heard she'll be in a spring drama with Tsyuyoshi of SMAP. Does anybody know more about this? Oh, yeah also heard she was nominated for a best actress award for her role in Always sanchome. Is this true? Arigatoo for any info posted. Happy new year to all Koyuki's fans

Saw a piece of news about the reason for Koyuki's breakup with Kenji. It seemed that she went back to her old flame, someone she once acted with years back and recently again in Always. Who is that guy? Anybody knows anything on this? Couldn't be yosuke right (her co-star in Laundry), he's married isn't he and he didn't act in Always. Info anyone?

She came into 2006 with a bang. First, she won an award at the Tokyo International jewelry, then got nominated for her role in Always at Japan Academy Awards. Then came all the bad news. She didn't win the Best Actress award, despite the film sweeping all the other nominated categories (13 out of 14 I think)! Talking about bad luck!!. Next I heard she had problems with her management agency, so she's now in cold storage, it seems. She doesn't seem to be doing anything - no new drama roles, no film offers and worse, her staple of commercials' spot has only been for Panasonic, Bausch & Lamb and SK II since January. On top of that, the media & tabloids have not much of good things to report about her. Like, she's been described as becoming big-headed & dressing in more sexier, daring outfits (something like being desperate for attention etc) which I think has been unfair & bringing undue pressure on her life. I think she needs to sign a new management team too coz they've not been paying her much attention. Go to her website at FlaMme, her pictures were still old ones back in 2004 & see what I mean. She needs to seriously consider going for Hollywood roles before she turns 35 or before they forgot about her altogether like Chiaki Kuroyama etc. if she's really serious about acting.
On her personal front, I don't think her new boyfriend will be someone inspirational for her. He's a good actor, no doubt but such a womaniser that I shudder to think how Koyuki will pick herself up if they ever broke up. Kenji on the other hand, has been a decent guy, so its such a pity they've gone separate ways.

So I think, it all points out to a lousy 2006 for Koyuki. Hope I'm wrong though coz she's the best actress Japan has after so long & I'm patiently waiting for her new films & dramas. Let's hope I'm really, really wrong.

wow, that was a bountiful amount of information. thx! it all makes sense because her media exposure does seem to have decreased as of late. again, great update albeit somewhat disturbing news.

i dunno about her being the "best" actress in japan, i personally think rie miyazawa owns that title but we all have different opinions. Mr Green

Sorry if I sounded so obtruse by declaring Koyuki as the best. Guess it depends on one's own experience. Among those that I've seen (all the recent actresses)- Tokiwa Takako, Kou Shibasaki, Matsu Takako, Mitshushima Nanako, Ryo, Tomoko Yamaguchi, Wakui Emi, Yada Akiko, Tsurata Mayu, Kuroki Hitomi, Shinohara Ryoko, Itoh Misaki, Uchiyama Rina & Yoshino Kimura, I think I can safely conclude that the best actress ranking based on my personal preference is Koyuki, Wakui Emi, Shinohara Ryoko, Matsu Takako, Tsurata Mayu & Tomoko Yamaguchi.

The rest (which I've cannot recall here) has not moved me in their acting despite having the looks and boundless drama roles. EXCEPT for Rie Miyazawa whose work I've not seen yet, I've heard she's quite good so I think while I wait for Koyuki's new film/drama, I'll go find one of hers. She's not been into acting lately right? So what's her best dramas/films?

if you want to see some of rie miyazawa's best work i'd recommend the films tasogare seibei (the twilight samurai), the face of jizo and tony takatani. she's won multiple awards for those performances.

don't get me wrong...i think koyuki is a capable actress.
