Has anyone else been lucky enough to see Zatoichi yet??? Holy crap that movie rocks!!! I just got out of the theater a couple hours ago and im still !tingling with delight over those fight scenes!! So fast! So Slick! its awesome definetly recommened for everyone to go see, of course if youd ont mind a little bit of gore. In the tradition of Japanese movies they gotta put Buckets of Blood and this movie is no exception but its still bad ass!

Cool i wanted to see that movie too. I saw the old school Zatoichi and it was great. I hope the new movie is as good or even better.

Malorum, are you talking about the new Zatoichi starring Kitano Takeshi?

I've read that the film has won awards at Cannes and the Toronto Film Festivals...

There's also a number of Zatoichi films (starring Shintaro Katsu) released on DVD, which I'm currently planning to buy: http://www.deepdiscountdvd.com/search.cfm?searchstart=1&searchby=Title&keywords=zatoichi&ordering=title&price=0&searchdecade=0&searchrating=0&genre=0

Malorum, you currently in Japan? Cos the movie was recently released in Japan. Can't wait to see the movie. Hopefully Kitano talks a little bit more this time compared to his other works, hehe. Gonna check out trailer now.

yea im currently in Japan. Tokyo.

Yes it just came out too

and actually he doesnt really speak that much in this movie at all lol...good ol kitano.. and wow the movie is great! the old zatoichi is great too. The Japanese public was a little harsh on this movie though because they felt kitano made this film more for an international audience and is therefore less of a JAPANESE film or so they say. I thought it was friggin wonderful and id see it again if it wasnt for the 18dollar entrance fee to the movie theater!!! ouch!!!

I'm not sure if this fits under this category or not. So I go ahead.

Have any of you hear or seen this movie by Takeshi Kitano.

You mean the new Kitano version? That's already out. You can find Region 1 DVD for example here: http://www.dvdsoon.com/show-title-details.xml?uid=125007
DVD has also been released at least in UK, Hong Kong and Japan.

If you mean the original version, there's at least Region 1 DVD:

Funny, that's the reason I like all the Zatoichi movies, they're not just a bunch of mindless action Smile

The original ones were mostly better than the Kitano one, I think, but I like them all.

I really am old school I guess, besides being old...... The new Zatoichi movie was disappointing in my view. It seemed to lack the soul of Zaotoichi. Shake Head

was watching on cable tv the original Zaotoichi, have to say, it was classic and good. I didn't watch the whole thing, but I would have to say i like the martial arts in it and the whole story. I haven't seen the newer one, but I would like to see it as well now. Bonk

For those who have seen the older series (I think there was 20 ++ movies made starring Mr. Katsu) what do you recommend watching ?
