We will get a new interim head of HR, and a new permanent one somewhere in 2011.
Unfortunately I have been working too long for corporations to not know what this means. The bad cop, good cop strategy. The interim one will be a "cleaner". Sweat

I am not too concerned because I have different plans for 2011 anyway but I don't like to go to work right now because people are already trying to position themselves as not-replacable, fostering a culture of blame and contra-productive competition. Fair enough, for some there's a lot at stake, but it's not pleasant.

Wow, that sounds very much like what's going on in our government here in the States. Sweat

Yup.

She's been running this company for the past 30+ years and she still doesn't know how to just relax and trust her people... She treats us like kids. Shake Head

Actually, she's a lot like my mom: neurotic and worries about EVERYTHING. bleh

That's a loonnnggg time but if she (with all the employees' hard work) gets the projects out on time she must be doing something right.

I think it's less about her and more the people involved... She just adds to everyone's anxiety level with her micromanagement and "sky is falling" attitude.

The few times she's gone on vacation, it's more at ease and a lot happier bunch of people.

So my computer at work was slow. I found that I only had 1 Gigabyte of memory, and I normally do a lot of graphics with it. So I asked the help desk for a memory upgrade. They said that they don't support that model of computer anymore, so I would have to get a new computer for 10-20X the cost of the memory! They installed Windows 7 on it, and since two of the programs I use the most don't use 64-bit Java, I can't use them at all until they upgrade their software. So it's time for a work-around. Or maybe a vacation in Thailand....

Why? Oh, because of the "crap" part. I think it should be changed. "talk about work" instead of "talk crap about work" since a lot of people would have nice things to say as well.

I think that is an excellent point,

i could say that there is plenty to complain about with work, especially for this week, but I try to be thankful, and to have a job, is the main thing to be thankful for, and my co-workers are ok.

^agreed, could be renamed.

First day back at work and had to work immediately on emergency communications regarding our Tokyo office. When we called them this morning (the phone lines were extremely bad)we were relieved to hear that everybody is fine if fearful.

Some of the staff will be relocated to our HK office.

My company will donate the equivalent of profit we made from Japanese clients in 2010 to tsusami victims via a charity selected by our Tokyo office.

They have selected Doctors without borders and what is nice is that all employees can donate too and my company will (on top of above contribution) match the amount donated by staff. Mr Green

I don't like my company but this is the way to go.
