Hello
I would like to add Gifs to my sign as well (time for sth new ^^)
Is there any tool I can use to make Gifs smaller (height*width)
I have a avi to gif converter, however the gifs have the same height*width as the original avi files. Do I have to convert the wanted part of the avi first, or is there a way to resize the gif without affecting the animation?

the most popular tool for gifs is imageready followed by gif animator, I think. You can do a straightforward resize so it retains aspect ratio or you can crop the frames to only focus on the part you like. Dont forget to reduce colors as well, to help reduce filesize.
Hope that helps...

that's why i use photimpact/gif animator - easier to use and way cheaper unless u can get photoshop for free. hehehe. Ofcourse, photoimpact doesnt have any of the complex brushes that PS has, but i dont draw anyway so thats fine with me.

@ahochaude

which program did you use to make the gif in your sign? using Avi-gif .. the gif somehow has some disgusting pixels in it.
not as clean picture as yours
opening the avi file directly with imageready doesnt work (it says that the needed plugin isnt available) so I always have to convert to gif first.
-------------------
and then is there a way to cut a specific part of the whole gif?
For example I dont want the whole scene just a specific part of it (for example just showing one persons face and not the hard subtitle)
however cutting each singe pic from the animation will take a year....

photoimpact coms with gif animator and sells for $70 but u can get them for $30-40 when theres special offers.

@bedi: I made ahochaude's sig of Rina. I used gif animator to create it and used the minimum variance option when reducing colors to minimize dithering and filesize.

I didn't. The sig was a "gift" from Arnel98 to me. I just saved it and used it.

I don't understand that kind of lingo. (I'm an idiot when it comes to computer terms) Try and use Layman's terms with me. Then perhaps I'll get what you're saying.

yep the colors are the problem
then I'll get Ulead PhotoImpact XL 8.5 now and try your settings

@ahoch..
dont mind that part anymore
maybe I should try gif animator again, setting the same settings as arnel mentioned
--------------
but anyone who can help me about cutting out a part of the picture? (dont want the subs ...)

nope, i mean ulead gif animator
as for subs, its better if u can get a raw one. Cutting out the subs is a bit tedious.

ah, that might be a problem. You could try the blur tool but it won't be able to take out the subs without affecting the image behind it.

yeah, the abbreviated aho does sound abit offensive but since ahochaude doesnt mind, then its okay i guess Wink

maybe I couldnt explain well. I dont want to filter out the subtitle... I want to cut some of the background + subtitle as well, so that I just have the 'important' part of the picture as gif animation.
example: the whole pic, but I just want the marked part as gif (just example pic)
