That was just the name Tarantino thought about for his character.

being that tarantino is so siced for sonny chiba, that is why he chosed that name. as a matter of fact tarantino tries to make a reference of chiba in a lot of his movies, even the movie true romance with c. slater, he worked in a chiba refernece by letting slater say that he was the greatest actor ever.

yep. my point was that the name had been used before.

I guess I should've said "a Hanzo" to cut down on confusion?

Right you are: He played the invincible Iga ninja leader Hattori Hanzo, in four Shadow Warriors (Kage No Gundan) series....

Interestingly, when Chiba played Yagyu Jubei in The Yagyu Conspiracy, he faced an Iga ninja leader named Hattori Hanzo. And killed him. Smile

Yeah but that was the historical ninja Hanzo Hattori, not a generic mild-mannered modern-day sword maker.

Actor Kashiwabara Takashi (27) and former TV personality Hatano Hiroko (photo, 28) are said to be on the verge of getting hitched. Their parents were recently seen dining together, a common sign that nuptials are being planned. The couple met while appearing together in the TBS drama "Koi no Kamisama" four years ago. Hatano retired from showbusiness a year and a half ago, the first sign of an impending marriage. They are currently living together in Tokyo. • Actress Sugita Kaoru (39) is to release a cover of her own 1981 hit "Tori no Uta", her first new single in 23 years. Sugita has been a variety show regular over the last couple of years, her "selling point" being her image as a straight-talking woman who's fond of a drink, and destined never to find true love. She started her acting career at the tender age of 8 and had her breakthrough at 15 on the hugely popular TV series "3-nen B-kumi Kimpachi Sensei".

Up-and-coming actor Kubozuka Yosuke (25) has miraculously survived a fall from the balcony of his 9th floor apartment in Yokohama. He was conscious when taken to a nearby hospital on Sunday afternoon but no further information is yet available on his condition. Police, who are investigating the possibility of a suicide attempt, said in a statement that the 26m fall was broken in part by a "fence-like" roof near the bottom. Kubozuka has a trail of strange events and activities behind him suggesting he has an afinity for drugs or, at best, is just plain flaky. He married a dancer a year ago and the couple had a baby in October.

Details are currently sketchy but "Ping Pong" and "GTO" actor Kubozuka Yousuke (25) jumped off the terrace of his apartment (9th floor) on the afternoon of June 6th. Breaking his fall was a metal fence below. When emergency services got to him, he was conscious and Kubozuka said that his whole body was in pain. According to a resident of the apartment complex, around 12:10 p.m. the resident of the apartment complex heard a sound and when he checked, he saw a body laying on the ground. Blood was flowing from his head and a woman was by his side. Kubuzoka kept moaning that he was in pain. Kubuzoka was taken to a hospital in Yokosuka for treatment and then will be transferred to Yokohama. Right now there are current rumors and speculation of why Kubozuka may have jumped. More details coming soon...

Kubozuka's fall from balcony an accident, agencysays

Tuesday, June 8, 2004 at 07:55 JST
TOKYO \ Actor Yosuke Kubozuka's fall from the balcony of his ninth-floor condominium in Yokosuka, Kanagawa Prefecture, on Sunday was an accident caused by carelessness, his management agency said Monday.

According to a statement released by Infini Inc, the 25-year-old Kubozuka was trying to detach a device from the balcony to hold cloth carp streamers when he fell "due to carelessness." The actor is conscious but has broken some bones and needs to remain in the hospital while he recuperates, the agency said. (Kyodo News)

Actor Kubozuka Yosuke (25) is said to be recovering well from his 26m fall from his apartment balcony on Sunday. He has several broken bones, but is fully conscious and has apologized for worrying people. The fall is said to have happened while he was removing a device used to hold traditional "koi nobori" (carp streamers) from the balcony. • As was predicted here last week, actor Kashiwabara Takashi (27) and former TV personality Hatano Hiroko (photo, 28) got married on Sunday.
