Do you own the JP release? It has great picture quality (I did a comparison with screencaps some pages back, also found here: http://adg.invisionzone.com/index.php?showtopic=516) It's definitely worth getting.
No, but I think I'll be getting it now, thanks to your review! For the record, this is what Optimum had to say about the faulty disc:
"Thanks for your e-mail relating to Azumi 2, we have noticed the problem
and this has since been rectified, please send me your address and I
will send out a replacement DVD.
Sorry for the inconvenience caused by this error."
Looks like a first batch mastering error. Anyway, I've emailed for my replacement disc
Also, I'm pretty sure the documentary we got on the UK disc is this:

Here's my Azumi 1 JP vs UK dvd comparison.

Region 2 UK
Studio: Optimum Entertainment
Video Format: Widescreen 1.85:1 (Anamorphic) (PAL)
Audio Format: DD 2.0 Surround
Subtitles: English (burnt in)
Running Time: 123 min
Release date: July 26, 2004

Picture Quality
Both releases offer good picture quality. Toshiba may be slightly sharper, but Optimum is very good also. Optimum has a slight greenish tint, though itfs not a serious problem. Optimum also appers to be vertically distorted. However, this is hardly noticable. Toshiba wins.
Sound Quality
I donft have proper equipment to judge the sound quality. However, Optimum only features a 2.0 track, while Toshiba has 2.0, 5.1 DD and 5.1 DTS. Easy win for Toshiba.
Subtitles
Both releases have good english subtitles. Except that Optimumfs subtitles are burnt in. Therefore Toshiba is the winner.
Menus
Optimum has decent stop motion menus with animated intro. Unfortunately some of the menus are 16/9, while others are 4/3. Toshiba has simple but good looking animated menus. Toshiba is the winner again.
Package
Excellent work from Optimum. A very good looking cover art. The Japanese Deluxe Edition comes in a big, super cool digipac. Toshiba wins.
Extras
Optimum has two long documentaries (1h 25 min & 41 min) and a theatrical trailer. Documentaries are subtitled in english. Toshiba has the same two documentaries + 5 additional trailers / TV spots, a music video, 6 short TV-programs (approximately 2 min each), 2 TV-specials (approximately 7 min each), 2 art galleries, action chapter selection and cast & staff profile. None of the extras features subtitles. Deluxe Edition also includes a 15 page photo booklet and a 43 page Azumi manga booklet. So, the Japanese release offers lots of unique extras, while the British release offers subtitles. I call this a tie.
Notes
R2 JP Deluxe Edition is out of print. Standard edition features the same main disc. Disc 2 and other bonus stuff (booklets...) are naturally not included. Both UK and JP (standard edition) releases are also available in double packs featuring Azumi 1 and Azumi 2.
Cuts
Toshiba feautures the fully uncut japanese release, while Optimum features a 15 minute shorter international cut. Needless to say which version is the winner.
Winners
Movie: Toshiba Entertainment (for being uncut)
Picture Quality: Toshiba Entertainment
Sound Quality: Toshiba Entertainment
Subtitles: Toshiba Entertainment
Extras: Draw
Menus: Toshiba Entertainment
Package: Toshiba Entertainment
2. When Nagato (the ninja) brings the letter, the old Master reads aloud their mission. International cut deletes the latter part of the scene. Instead we hear a voice over during the next scene, telling what their mission is. This totally ruins the great use of music on that scene.

Great comparison again, Shurayuki-hime
Fortunately I have the japanese Special Edition of Azumi 1.
I was unsure which Azumi 2 DVD I should get but itLs clear now the only the japanese DVD will be the best. ItLs just too bad that there are just "normal" DVD extras with on the Azumi 2 DVD. I was thinking to buy the making of Azumi 2 DVD also but itLs so damn expensive. Does anyone got it and can say whatLs in the disc and if itLs worth to buy?
Besides, the first release of Azumi 2 jp had some extra booklet, right? What exactly is in that one?

WOW thanks a lot Shurayuki-hime for this comprehensive comparison . I have a dvd rip of Azumi and the question which version is the source has been bothering me for quite a while. Now I see that it's from japanese DVD . Anyway I can't understand why on earth they've cut it ??? This ruins the whole movie ... _________________

I think most rips around are already the long version. I first had Azumi as divX and was like, after getting the long japanese SE DVD, cool, longer movie and more scenes ...but it was the same as I alredy got on CD

Yup Yup. Aya chooo kawaii and has a very cute smile too.
To me, it seems that she smiles from the bottom of heart and not just putting one on for the sake of it (cept maybe for some of her photo shoot).
Naahh... no subs for the London Hearts vid
I've been meaning to ask if anyone wants to try and make subs for it.
It'd be good to understand why she picked who she picked.
I think its got something to do with the dude's smile and hair cut _________________
Great! Aya interviews are even more fun when I know what sheLs talking about if there are subs
There should really be more subs for interviews
Actually I downloaded the show already a while ago but haveLt watched it till now. I just wonder why she doesnLt like herself in the Music Station clip. I think that is her best look ever!
ILd rather understand her laughing if sheLd look back to this Matthew show in a few years when she sees herself in this outfit and especially that hat.

Thanks for the vid Hiro-san
@Freefall: Maybe she doesn't like it because she thinks its embarassing how she was dressed then??? Or her voice??? Maybe she doesn't like hearing or watching recorded vids of her singing because her singing doesn't sound the way she thought it would.....like to her it could be bad when we think it sounds nice _________________
