Found a magazine at the Kinokuniya that had Aya on the front cover, so I bought it But sadly....she is only on the cover and on a page with the girl who sung the opening to Attack No.1. That was it and I spent I don't know how much on it. I scan the cover and page tomorrow and post it up

Nice pics Phinn. I really like Aya with her hair like that in the 3-2-1 countdown. SO CUTE!!!

It's not only the tsuba, the saya also looks different and the handle too. It's a whole different sword I'd say. There's a resemblence, but then again, there's one with my own too.

Curious if there's actually a real, forged, version of Azumi's sword, cause the one in the movie was most likely plastic. I do remember a company in Japan that makes swords, made of plastic, for movies, but those look remarkably real. Nevertheless, those are toys.

If you want ot custom made for yourself, as in really forged... that's quite expensive.

Yes, it's that first contest, when she was 11. I have another video from this contest.
One years later she joint Z-1.

Brief history lesson

Aya was 11. The contest was held in August 1997, three weeks before she turned 12.

Z-1 was formed from the winners of the various categories. Aya won the 'Special Jury Prize', though I'm not sure what the others won (singing, dancing, etc perhaps?).

The contest was held by Oscar Promotion as a way of finding new talent. All the members of Z-1 were signed to Oscar Pro. at the end of the contest, but they waited a couple of years before getting them together to form Z-1, presumably because they were still all very young and probably needed a fair bit of training before they could convince a record label (in this case Toshiba EMI) to sign them.

Z-1 debuted in Shibuya on the 15th of July 1999.

Random fact: Apparently they were called 'Z-1' because 'Z' represented 1999 and the '1' 2000, so they were both the last group of the old millennium and the first group of the new millennium.
