hey guys,

this question is actually for S'pore users and have nothing to do wif j-dorama... gomen...

i'm currently using Singnet Broadband 256....
since my contract is ending soon, i'm thinking of switching to singnet 512 plan... or to SCV maxonline 1500...

which is better?? Maxonline or Singnet Broadband?? in terms of download speed and value for money??
i've nvr used maxonline b4....

I'm on SCV Maxonline.. speed-wise it's great but as for value, I'm not sure how to compare tho.

hmmm... thanks Aki...

what plan are you using for Maxonline? and how much the sub per mth??

current promos for Maxonline is
Maxonline 1500 abt $59
3000 abt $79...

and as for Singnet BB,
BB 256 abt $51
512 $62.40

Gomen, I'm not very sure about the cost for what my family is subscribed to. If you don't mind, I'll get back to you soon again. ;)

i recommend SCV as generally, in comparison from comments from my friends who use broadband SCV seems to be faster. SCV max dl can go up to 200+ KB while broadband goes up to only about 50... thats what i heard anyway.

If u are a d/ler of large files, SCV cable is better cos there's more general bandwith. But expect times of a v crappy connection ... I like my pacnet 384k. Stable connection but its bandwith is quite limited cf to SCV.

Be advised MaxOnline 1500 vs MaxOnline 3000, tat ur upload bandwith is still the same. Wat some pple have discussed on hardware forums is tat this is a bottleneck n tat the supposed 2 times increase bandwith is not really as claimed by Starhub.

thank you.... windrider and lala81...

so the general consensus here is maxonline??!!

>lala81...

i'm a little confuse abt something here....
the bottleneck thing you mentioned is only the u/l speed??

i guess it depends on the area you're in... personally here in bukit timah i've never met with crappy speeds ever b4... the worst was like 150K++...

upload limit is around 15k... basically scv for downloading more than uploading

so which plan do you subscribe to, windrider?? the 3000 one??

and i heard abt the thing that if a lot of pple in your area using maxonline, it may slow down the connection...

>windrider
True! Same here.. I also live in bukit timah/ batok area.. and never had problems with the speed.

I got bored and made this topic out of curiosity.

My fastest single d/l was 2.1 mb/sec, over irc (yeah i know, u should seen my face after i read the log file)

My fastest Multi-d/l was when I was just got a cable modem and I was useing BT to d/l multiple J-drama series. I would have to say that I peaked at about 3 mb/sec (finshed off series in like 5 min, while on 56k it woulda taken me a week maybe more)

best i've done on a single d/l was 920kb/s (when downloading Ragnarök Online).

I feel for you, marecore. i used to have dial-up and it would take about a week per episode. since i've gotten dsl in december, the fastest d/l speed that i've seen on my machine is about 50/60k per sec, and that is usually with 1 torrent d/l at a time. still no way near your 3mb/sec!!! Now that is speed!

i think they're posting in bits/sec.
Coz, if those are bytes/sec, that's like T3 speeds already. (i want one as well)
Anyway, i get about 150kB/s (~1.5mb/s) when downloading anime since there's usually an abundance of seeds (<20 mins for a 150MB ep).
but my upload sucks. If i set my upload anywhere above 12kB/s my download speed tkaes a dive.

my DSL max is 166 KB/s - around 1300 Mbits / s

Looks like marecore has been leechin goods on edu's connection ;)

I got a file at 1,5 MB/sec from a domestic server way back then. Download speed is good on cable :) Tends to choke as there are simultaneous traffic from both direction :beaten:

im not talking Kb/s it's Mb/s now that's what I call speed!

Cable's pretty fast don't don't abuse it or u'll end up frying ur comp like what I almost did

I switch between edu (sucks cause firewalls and all) when I;m at schooland cable when I get at home. O yeah I pay for the cable at home I'm no rich boy.

my fastest now with sbc dsl is 155k/s or so. Fastest BT download was 145kd/l - 3ku/l

at UC Berkeley dorms my fastest download was 5 MB/sec (!!!!). this was in 1999.

oh well, anything's better than modem

Time Warner Cable

350 KBps / 2.8 Mbps

Suppose to be 3Mbps but I'm not gonna bitch.
