That's my feeling too, Betsy... Heh, I didn't know that this guy was part of SMAP, but he just doesn't have the presence to convince me that he's the leader of this group... |
You know wat?! I think the SAME too!! xD I never dare to say this, in another Shinsengumi BBS, coz other Shingo fans might strangle me But, I do find Shingo's acting in Shinsengumi is weird! Not natural...it seems he struggle too much to act as the quiet and nice Isami Kondou.
And Shingo does know it better than anyone else, that he's not capable in acting Isami Kondou, even from the first place. He was shocked when he was casted as Isami last year....and he keeps saying that he cannot do this...he wouldnt be able to do the role well....he doesnt have the confidence. Even up to the pers conference in September 2003, a week before the shooting starts....he said, he's still dont have confidence in himself. But since the director, Mitani Koki, keep convince him, that he'll be okay and all....Shingo dare to take this challenge. Hmm...I just hope his acting grow episode by episode x) There's a long way to go till Shinsengumi ends...and I can only wish Shingo's acting will grow better...^^
I love Shingo for what he is!^^ That funny, funny character he carry(Shingo Mama is NOT Shingo-kun yoh! Dont mix them up!*LOL*). So when he act a quiet and serious roles....I feel, "Ehhhh...? suki jannai, konna Shingo ga..." x)
The most successful serious role he carry is probably his role in Yomigaeru Kinro(The Wolf; co-starring Takako Uehara), ....where he has to act 2 different identities in the action drama....quiet, nice and sweet by day....and psycho&viscious by night^^ I really like him here!! And I dont even know who Shingo is when I first watched this drama. But I got really taken with his on-screen presence and great acting in the drama. Thus, he become one of my favorite actor. And when I watched SmapXSmap for the 1st time, I'm even more shocked....coz the real Shingo is 180 degrees different with his role in The Wolf x) And knowing this, made me adore him even more^^
His acting is also superb in MISEINEN(under age; Ishida Issei, Takashi Sorimachi). He acted a retarded boy...and he acted the role perfectly!!^^d
But have to say, Shingo really shouldnt be in romantic dramas x) His acting is weird and unnatural in Ichiban Taisetsu na Hito(w/ Arisa Mizuki) & Love Story(w/ Yuuka). His other -not too good- acting is in Koi wa Aserazu, starring with Oda Yuuji. And now....Shinsengumi.... x)
Shingo did great acting in most of his dramas....except in these 4 dramas! I'm not fond of his acting in these dramas =( Dissapointing....
Oh, his other great acting, we can see in SMAPxSMAP! hehe...
However, despite Shingo's lack in acting Isami Kondou, in Shinsengumi. I still think the story is very well-written, and I love the story, dialogues and scenes VERY much!!^^ I love how each characters' developed and the relationship between characters...^^
I hope my post here does not annoyed anyone? I'm very sorry, if it does _________________

I have NO IDEA how SMAP obtained a recording contract. I just don't think they're great singers, period. Great comedians, actors and chefs... I just can't understand why people like their singing? Once they sang along with Matsuda Seiko -- oh, man, it was awful!!!

I read somewhere that SMAP is basically a Japanese version of 60's TV-pop group The Monkees...

Well, even The Monkees lasted what 1 or 2 seasons??? LOL! KIKU-TV used to televise old Monkees shows in the late 70's. Pure torture!
Back to Shinsengumi, got through watching episode 3 earlier this week... I'm beginning to understand the characters more and more. I'm also watching Musashi again from start to finish* now that I understand what's going on.

*LOL* Agree!! SMAP is bad singers! Smappies, mochiron, realized that!^_^ Even Kimura who has the most beautiful voice among them, sometimes can be out of tune...10% most of the time x) While, Tsuyoshi Kusanagi...90% most of the time...xD Thats why, I prefer address them as an acting group or entertainer group rather than singing group...coz their voices cant even deserve "good"-level compliment
But, I was charmed with their ability in entertaining the audience with their creative shows in SmapXSmap and also their creative ideas in concerts performance. Plus, they amazed me with their acting skills!!^^
I dont think its their SINGING that gotten people like them...but its the SONGS....Smap is blessed with professional and high-skilled composers and musicians around them...thus produce good songs, and acceptable by the young, little kids, old, men and women.
And most of all.....what made me become a huge Smap fan...is their personalities...their real-selves!!^_^
You would never understand, the reasons people liking SMAP...until u watch SmapXSmap or their recent concerts....trust me ^-^
I agree SMAP is bad singers...I'm quite embarrased myself, watching SxS tribute song....I have to tone down the volume watching that, due to the awful voices, mainly, Nakai and Tsuyoshi produces...*lol*...
But, SMAP are excellent entertainers and actors, and that's why you can see guys, old people, little kids, one family among the audience of their concerts...not just screaming ladies ^_^ Even, celebrities! Namie Amuro told SMAP in Bistro Smap show, when she guests, that she watched their last year's concert, coz she has interest in their concert! Arienai, deshou??O_O
Anyway....dont read this...it'll just bored u!^^ I know u guys reading this with a -yeah, yeah so wat- look on your faces.....deshoooooo??? _________________

Yeah, I gotta second that one -- SMAP has some pretty good songs. And I suppose it helps that they've had everyone from Will Lee from Paul Schaffer's "The World's Most Dangerous Band" (yes, from Late Show With David Letterman; actually was Late Night With David Letterman for that SMAP double album I'm thinking about) to The Godfather of Soul, James Brown (he appeared SPEAKING and dancing, as some of you might know, in the Shingo Mama No Oha Rock music video) performing in SMAP's efforts.
I didn't like Lionheart. But, SMAP -- and the other Johnny's Jr's bands -- have some great tracks, The Man ain't afraid to admit. Some of the tunes are outright funky! Don't get me wrong -- I like their songs; I DON'T have to look at 'em singing their songs. And at the end of the day, I think every Johnny's Jr's group wants you to recognize them for their musical efforts.
Tell yourself with a straight face that Johnny Kitagawa ain't a darn genius for coming up with the whole Johnny's Jimusho; if you end up laughing anyway? Rest assured, he's laughing too, and louder than you . . . all the way to the bank.
I think Shingo's doing a great job of portraying his character, as the other actors are doing for their own respective roles.

I think it'll be about a year long, which apparently is typical for Taiga dramas...
