No, I guess. At least in NHK International it doesn't last an hour ...

Betsy's right. They usually take into account time for commercials so most "1 hour" long shows usually run about 45 minutes or so without commercials.

In NHK International there's no commercial break, so the show lasts 45 minutes ... It starts at 8:00 AM and ends at 8:45 AM (Brazil's time).

Coming up, in Shisengumi (from the NHK's hp):

The Sunday historical drama series, Shinsen-gumi!, will tackle the Ikedaya Incident, the most famous episode in the history of the Shinsen-gumi samurai band, in two installments on July 11 and 18. The scene of samurai warriors falling down the stairs at the Ikedaya Inn is always a highlight in the adaptations of this episode. The program staff have produced exciting and impressive fighting scenes by making full use of the latest compact, light-weight HDTV camera system that moves on a rail.

Last Sunday's episode was EXCELLENT!!! Best episode of Season 2!

They made the Serizawa-killing incident so memorable....with the intense fights....between Serizawa vs Hijikata-Yamanami-Okita-Harada! And I got goosebumps when suddenly Okita stabbed Serizawa! And the poor woman, Oume...just has to stab herself too........

Its tragic.....esp. for Isami, who actually do not want to do this. For Isami, if there's ONLY a way, he wont do this.....but apparently, there's not....there's no other way to fix MibuRoushigumi...they have to assasinate him. However, despite the bad things Serizawa has done, he still really respect Serizawa very much, and even ask what does he think of the new name given by Katamori....which is "Shinsengumi". And when....Serizawa left (who already has the feeling he's gonna be assasinate), Isami is quite upset and his eyes gets all teary....but, with a firm face.
Later on......he shouts to Inoue, "Oni ni natta! (i have become a demon/monster!)". Which means....he'd be more strict and viscious like Hijikata, maybe?

It really gives me the creeps, when they show a documentary of Yagi household in the end of the episode. And the damage on the ceiling coz of the sword is actually there!! Well, we never know who really did it....but in the drama...it was Okita^^ Okita got his sword stuck on the ceiling when he's about to slash Serizawa..... Makes the documentary interesting!^^ I never really pay attention to those documentaries at the end...hehe...

3rd season is coming!! wah.....already?

I'm only up to episode 18, but I have to say the show has been very dissappointing for me. Poor choice of lead "actor", cheezy music, amateurish directing, and extremely poor writing that gives it a sitcom feel. I guess I expected more from a Taiga Dorama after having watched Musashi.

Yanie_chan, your synopsis worries me about their portrayal of Kondo. At this rate, they might as well have "Yokoso" written on his forehead because he's such a doormat. Quite frankly, there's nothing about him that will lead one to believe he's a leader of anything.

Saitou's character has been pretty dissappointing. It's hard to believe he'll one day kill much of the group's leadership to clean it up. The only one in the series half-way believable is Hijikata, but I wonder if we'll see him become the "demon of the Shinsengumi" as history records him. One who orders the execution of Yamanami, then watches him perform seppuku despite knowing each other for so long.

The series needs to be more serious. We're talking about a group of samurai considered the strongest in Japanese history, whose rules insured that any member violating them would have to take their own life.

My feelings exactly. I lost interest after episode two...

Again, I agree, but I think we're in the minority. Oh well.

To be honest, I'm watching it because of the boy power... Beaten

I didn't get the chance to watch Musashi..DAMN!!! Bang Head which I believe is great.

Although not all episodes of shinsengumi to be fascinating but some were not bad. Oh, episode 25 of Shinsengumi was interesting.

Shingo, hmm..his acting is improving by episode that I watch. The best acting so far goes to Koichi Sato as Serizawa Sensei but ..after episode 25 I don't think that I would see him again.. Beaten

It's near-great...

Interestingly, when I brought up Musashi a long ways back, several people said that they weren't interested in the historical dramas. Only the modern dramas were more relevant, they said. Go figure.

Yeah, I've read a few books and I'm not looking forward to the ending either, but I will keep watching as long as Joe's in it! Lovey Eyes

Yeah, but my initial motivation was to watch the entire series about Miyamoto Musashi... It just happened that Ryoko-chan had a starring role in the series... Actually, this series introduced me to Ryoko-chan, for which I'm eternally grateful... Smile

Yeah, the epsiode KIKU-TV showed last night's the one where SPOILER AHEAD Hajime Yamaguchi (that's Odagiri Joe's character) resurfaces to allow Kiyokawa escape Kyoto. 13 initial Shinsengumi members; the classic "doomed to tragedy" number for celebrated groups. But, they have to do great things first. SPOILER ENDS

This is a GREAT show.
