Take heart, my ronin, the cavalry's here.
Loved the Musashi series.
<-That's Matahach over there, my inspiration.
I think the Kojiro Sasaki character was already developed as a romantic character previously. My wife was yakking about him long before he appeared in the show. What a guy, indeed. The man made short work of him... _________________
I'm actually watching Musashi all over again! Right now I just finished episode 3. Funny what things you forget in a year's time.
Oooh. I can't wait to do the same.

I'm also watching the trilogy from the 1950's. I bought and watched Samurai 1 over this past weekend, then taped Samurai 3 off of one of the pay channels two nights ago. I need to buy Samurai 2 before watching number 3.
Ah, you're talking about the award-winning Samurai Trilogy (If I recall, Miyamoto Musashi was the first film ever to win the Best Foreign Laguage Film Oscar) directed by Inagaki Hiroshi... I've got the LDs of the trilogy and I don't know how many times I've watched it. I hope Criterion releases a restored and remastered version of the trilogy in the near future...

Watching the series and the movie, I can see now why some people prefer the movie-version of Otsu over the TV version (Ryoko). Otsu from the 50's looked more like a fragile flower, while Ryoko looked stronger. Supposedly using the book as the foundation to everything (I haven't read it yet), the 50's Otsu is a closer match than Ryoko's version. Nothing against Ryoko -- I guess the director of the TV series had something else in mind.
I sorta agree and disagree. There's no doubt that Yachigusa Kaoru's Otsu was considerably more fragile the Ryoko-chan's Otsu, but both Otsu's were demure, single-minded, and driven to be with Musashi. It might be that Ryoko-chan's supermodel looks overpowered the character she played.
