i had a huge prob wif my home pc yesterday.... kept getting the following prob..

"System Shutdown" with the text:
This system is shutting down. Please save all work in progress
and log off. Any unsaved changes will be lost. This shutdown
was initiated by NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM

Time before shutdown: 00:00:59

Message:
Windows must now restart because the Remote Procedure Call
(RPC) service terminated unexpectedly

(The machine then reboots in 59 seconds.)

it was so frustrating.... Mad my pc like rebooted 20 over times in one nite....
tried to search for solutions on the net... and the bloody comp shut down.... nearly wanted to thrash my pc.....
i think it only happens to users using Windows XP... and it's spread thro' p2p softwares such as MSN Messenger....
spent the whole nite trying to recover the prob... luckily i came across this site >> http://www.techsupportforums.com/
and realised that i'm not alone.... many pple experienced the prob....
installed a patch from Microsoft Windows Update.... seems to be working fine after that..... hopefully when i go home and use my pc, it'll be in perfect working order... :shakehead

if anyone experienced the same prob... read here>>>http://www.techsupportforums.com/showthread.php?s=bcf6c76b15844027eb09da5e62b2e6da&threadid=6569&forumid=10

also, my norton anti-virus kept giving a msg that it found a virus with the name... W32.Blaster.worm....

so do remember to update your anti-virus as well..... Sweat

It's also a good idea to install a firewall, just to be safe. I have Norton anti-virus and Personal Firewall installed on my system. I get a lot of port-scan, intrusion alerts from the firewall everyday. True most of these alerts are probably of not real concern cuz many of them are from so called hack programs that automatically search ip's for open ports etc. My friend's like "why would anyone hack my comp? bah nothing to worry about." For me, I think better be safe than sorry.

kooko5 ... are you using ADSL connection ... for IE / Netscape ??? if yes ... pls take care about another intruder / hacker / viruses warm ...

so my suggestion is ... pls disconnect your adsl link connection .. once you are no longer to use it anymore, dont forget to updated your scan engine and also virus data definition files through Super Dat for Mc Afee product.

You can update your virus database engine by clicking this below url :

http://download.mcafee.com/us/updates/stepTo_superDat.asp.

I hope this option can help your problem ...

Ja ne byee

Sweat I'm sorry it happened to you... Sad

I haven't encountered a problem like yours with my computer *knocks on wood*...

...but something also happened to my bro's computer last week. I think it's a different situation. Don't know wether it was infected by a virus or what. I think there was something wrong with his motherboard...because his computer couldn't boot. He couldn't do anything to fix it...so he bought a new motherboard to replace the old one. Shake Head

I don't exactly know what the problem was. Neither did he. Sweat

I used "McAfee" & "Norton" before...but then I switched to "Trend Micro's PC-cillin". Dunno which of these is the best one to use. Rolling eyes
