LENGTH!!.... jdoramas are usually around 12 episodes long and they advance the story rapidly but with time to describe all the characters... American dramas go for seasons and seasons and years into years... Also, American dramas are always about backstabbing and crap like that...GO JDORAMAS!! Applaud

i just started watching dorama recently and that was something i found suprising, the short length of the series. its good because its not such a pain in the ass to search for season after seaon of episodes.

j-drama > USA-drama
k-drama > USA-drama
k-drama > HK-drama
HK-drama > USA-drama
j-drama > k-drama

IMO Sweat

USA-drama = Sleeping

The major difference? Japanese women. Period.

If any of these dopey American dramas stuck Tamlyn Tomita in it, I'd watch it. Of course, ER got so dull that Ming Na Wen couldn't even get me to watch the show...

Yeah. On the last episode, even. And . . . a few other episodes.

A few tears back, I watched a scene being shot for the "Hawaii Five-O" TV pilot for the newer series that was supposed to be released (but, I think, got shelved); this is a scene that featured Gary Busey and Russell Wong where SOMEBOTY gets assassinated, or something like that. I saw that scene being filmed.

There're a buncha' shows being filmed here right now . . . one of 'em features Michael Biehn (of Aliens and The Terminator fame). He's been seen by a lot of folk in Waikiki filming certain scenes that involve a huge pink cadillac.

Generally, the j-dorama are filmed to come off more personally emotional and intimate.

9 times out of 10 American dorama's are too overproduced and robust for my tastes.

but Law and Order: SVU is a hell of a show. hehe

I heard those Law and Order shows are great. I know Detective Munch from Homicide: Life on the Streets is now on Law and Order: SVU. That sounds great.

A million J-doramas don't beat The Sopranos.

Still, that's the ONLY U.S. show I can characterize like that. Bada Bing!Wink

I can only watch so much of that genre in general, but I will admit it's great.

I always though Nip Tuck was pretty good and interesting!

That's pretty much the only American TV show that I watch. EVERYTHING else (besides MTV music videos) are Japanese.

Yawn.

Like The Godfather, I see the show as a glorification of criminals, and it doesn't sit well with me for the most part. Sad

Hhahaha. Man. THAT's why folks must needs love the '80s . . . when MTV showed music videos. Even MTV2's starting to shove their music vid' segments aside. At least VH1 still shows some MVs.

haha yah. M2, so I thought, would be a lifesaver... but to no avail. They teased us then yanked the rug from under us here in NYC by pulling the station a couple of years back.

MuchMusic is trash and there really isn't much out there that I'd want to see these days anyway.

Japan is still on the ball though.

...it's the little things. hehe
