When I first heard this, I thought it was a late April Fools' Joke, but so far, no denials: http://www.formula1.com/news/headlines/2010/5/10824.html

Somehow, F1 and Texas just don't mix. Crazy

Wasn't there a Grand Prix in Dallas in the 80's? Or maybe I'm confusing it with Detroit.... Sweat

Yup, 1984. I guess they didn't realize it gets hot in Texas in July: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1984_Dallas_Grand_Prix

Thanks for the confirmation...

I think it was pretty hot in the Detroit race as well... If I recall, Piquet barely won: he had to slow down the last few laps because a piece of paper had blocked his intercooler.

Nigel Mansell crashes at 24 Hours of Le Mans; Peugeot takes early lead

LE MANS, France (AP) \ Former Formula One world champion Nigel Mansell crashed at the 24 Hours of Le Mans just 18 minutes after the race started Saturday.

Mansell spun his Ginetta-Zytek and hit the security barrier before the Indianapolis turn. He spent several minutes in his car but was conscious when he was evacuated in an ambulance. Organizers later said he was in a good condition.

EDIT:
As predicted, the 24 Hours of Le Mans is turning into anyonefs race. Sebastien Bourdaisfs pole sitting Peugeot is out of the race, the Peugeot of the winners from last year – Marc Gene and Alexander Wurz – has had problems and dropped down the pack. There are still two Peugeot cars in the lead, one a factory team car and the other the ORECA private team car. But that puts the Audis up in third, fourth and fifth. It is anyonefs race still.

http://formulaone.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/06/12/theyre-off-for-24-hours-mansell-crashes-after-4-laps/

EDIT2:
Update after 17 hours 13/06/2010 07h59

After 17 Hours positions were:

Overall and LMP1 #9 Audi Sport North America LMP1 Audi R15 leads #8 Audi Sport Team Joest LMP1 Audi R15 by one lap, having completed 279 laps.

In LMP2 #42 Strakka Racing LMP2 HPD ARX.01 leads #26 Highcroft Racing LMP2 HPD ARX.01 by just over 3 laps.

In LM GT1 #50 Larbre Competition LMGT1 Saleen S7R leads #73 Luc Alphand Aventures LMGT1 Corvette C6.R by 2 laps.

In LM GT2 #64 Corvette leads #77 Team Felbermayr-Proton LMGT2 Porsche 911 GT3 RSR by 3m36s

There are now 18 retirements.

Man, these guys are dominating Le Mans like Porsche did in the 70's and 80's... Sweat

Audi Wins Le Mans, Finishing First, Second and Third
By BRAD SPURGEON

It may have been one of the fastest 24 Hours of Le Mans in history, with average speeds of 220 kilometers an hour, but at the end of the worldfs most illustrious endurance race, the Audi car manufacturer proved once again that winning in Le Mans is not about setting the fastest lap times.

In a crushing, humiliating and more convincing victory than anyone could have imagined 24 hours ago, three Audi cars finished in first, second and third positions. It was almost the opposite result to the 3 p.m. starting grid on Saturday in Le Mans, in western France. Yesterday, the top three cars starting were Peugeots. By the end of the race, not a single one of the Peugeots crossed the finished line.

Peugeot last year had finally broken Audifs iron grip on this race over the last decade by beating the team at its own game with a diesel engine. This year, Peugeot had the faster car and in the eyes of many people was the clear favorite for victory. But Audi improved the carsf speed and handling from last year, and also knew from experience the importance of enduring with cars that had practically no mechanical problems or breakdowns.

And so it is that Audi won its ninth Le Mans 24 Hours race, equaling the result of Ferrari. The winning car was driven this weekend by Timo Bernhard, 29, a German; Romain Dumas, 32, a Frenchman; and Mike Rockenfeller, 26, another German.

Shortly before the end of the race, Wolfgang Ullrich, the director of the Audi team, told Eurosport the secret of the victory.

gWe were confident that the cars would be reliable and last the 24 hours,h he said. gWe knew we were not as fast as the Peugeots, and I told the drivers to drive fast, but without taking risks.h

Allan McNish, who drove the Audi that finished third, said the team was surprised, delighted and a little let down.

gWe didnft believe we would be able to do a one-two-three, thatfs for sure,h McNish said in a television interview, adding. gWe didnft like to see the Peugeots go out like that \ I like to fight to the end.h

But for the spectators who watched the race over 24 hours, it was one of the biggest upsets in decades.

Awesome. Victory! Peace!

And the comments are pretty funny, too, especially those in response to that Corvette-head. hehe

Kitty oil is better than Mobil 1. Freshly squeezed no less.
