Recently a movie of his was shown on local tv, i can't recall the name at the moment, though. But he was acting as a teacher to some rowdy bunch of kids. Very good portrayal!!! I wrote down the title somewhere in one of my notebooks. But now i just can't figure out which one. Bonk Went to search on internet but found nothing. HAHA. nadrika is attracted to obscure stuff. What's new? Bang Head

It was based on a true story of a teacher who taught these kids who are considered 'goners' by the community.

It is "The Ron Clark Story" from 2006. Matthew Perry played Ron Clark. I found this info on the IMDb site.

Thanks Enna! When i went to the IMDB site yesterday, i was looking out for a recent movie with a one word title cos i remembered that it was a one word title.

Found the post-it i wrote it on and it was called The Triumph. Sweat

Off-topic: I am currently watching Yankee Bokou ni Kaeru which also has a similar plot. Looks like the signs are all telling me i should really be a teacher, something i have avoided for SO LONG!!! Bang Head

The satisfaction you get from teaching is so hard to describe but I felt that it was well portrayed in "The Ron Clark Story".

Finished watching the first season of New Tricks, a British crime series. Three retired male detectives--all of whom come with personal and professional baggage--are brought back as civilian employees to work on unsolved cases from decades ago. They are under the supervision of a very ambitious, middle-aged female detective superintendent who was "promoted" to this position after shooting a dog during a raid on a gambling den. Equal parts police procedural, character study, social commentary, and very amusing comedy, this is an excellent series. I hope further seasons (I think there have been five so far) will become available.

I am still watching New Tricks every Tues and Friday night on my local PBS channel. It is on WLIW at 10:00PM. Good show! Good

For the folks who are watching Project Runway have you also been watching Models of the Runway? The show comes on right after Project Runway. IMO it looks too similar to Tyra Banks' America's Next Top Model. Plus this season after each challenge the designers all seem to be keeping the models they started out with. So that means when a designer gets booted off the show then so does their model.

New Tricks is one of the most popular and most watched shows in the UK, and very good it is too, very funny in parts but it isn't afraid to explore some of the darker parts of the lead's personalities. It helps that the cast are uniformly excellent and all are familiar faces from the last 30 years of British TV.

For instance, Dennis Waterman (Gerry Standing) is basically playing an older version of a character he played in The Sweeney, a revolutionary police show from the 70s. He was also in Minder from the 80s which has to be one of the best TV shows ever produced.

James Bolam (Jack Halford) was in the sublime Beiderbecke Trilogy from the mid 80s which, for me, is quite possibly the best TV show ever produced. He stars with the delectable Barbara Flynn as a couple of school teachers who have a series of unlikely adventures. However the plot really doesn't matter as it's the cast, writing and the interplay between the characters, espically the leads, which make it so good. Actually, for that reason, I was continually reminded of it when I was watching Kekkon Dekinai Otoko, even though the subject matter and plot are totally different.

Well, honestly I struggled watching Jiko Keisatsu--it had too many of the characteristics I find off-putting in dorama these days.

New Tricks, on the other hand, was a joy to watch--great cast, good scripts--something geared for mature intelligent adults.

The three actors who play the retired detectives are all great--there's excellent chemistry among them and with Amanda Redman who plays their exasperated boss.

I came across the Beiderbecke Trilogy while I was reading about New Tricks; looks like I'll have to add that to my Netflix queue. I'll have to look up Sweeney and Minder as well.

I love New Tricks. I think they've run through the 4th season up here on PBS... and it's just not getting old. Not for me at least.

By the way... while you're adding to your list, you might want to check out George Gently. A detective show set in the early to mid '60's in Northern England. It doesn't have the light comic moments of "New Tricks" or "The Last Detective". But it's certainly one of the best British Detective shows I've seen in a long while.

They've done 3 seasons so far, but sadly Netflix only has the first. It consists of three 2 hour long movies.

We are obessed by Project Runway.
Have all 5 seasons on DVD.... Big Grin
I hate watching one week at a time.

And we just sucked down Cycle 1 of America's Next Top Model.
Im rather surprised that is the only season available on DVD so far. Head Scratch

We are so hooked on these reality challenges.. Beaten

Wink I thought that until we saw Gene Simmon's Family JEwels. That was the original one to hook us.
THe whole family was so bright and funny.
And recently we really enjoyed Frontier House. THough their experiment would have had more validity to us if they had stayed the winter. Grumble
I cant help liking it... ashamed hehe w00t!
