Tachi, Minamisawa play father, daughter in "Dandy Daddy"
Mon, June 8, 2009 (3:11am EDT)
Actor Hiroshi Tachi (59) will be starring in a new TV Asahi drama series along with actress Nao Minamisawa (18). They will play a father and daughter in the family comedy "Dandy Daddy? ~Renai Shosetsuka Ryunosuke Izaki~" that airs this summer.
Tachi plays the part of the widower Ryunosuke Izaki, a popular romance novelist whose books are always bestsellers. Despite that, he is overprotective of his daughter Akari (Minamisawa) in matters of love, constantly monitoring her activities.
This is Tachi's first drama series since "Papa to Musume no Nanokakan" in 2007, in which he played a father who unexpectedly switches bodies with his teenage daughter (Yui Aragaki).
The supporting cast includes Aya Hirayama (25) and Hideo Ishiguro (20). "Dandy Daddy?" premieres on July 9 in TV Asahi's Thursday 9:00pm time slot.
NHK are always thinking well ahead when it comes to their annual taiga drama series. Yesterday they announced the first details of their 50th yearlong historical drama, to be aired from January 2011. Titled "Gou - Himetachi no Sengoku," it will be based on the life story of Gou, official wife of Tokugawa Hidetada (1579-1632), the second shogun of the Tokugawa dynasty. Gou was related by either blood or marriage to the three key warlords (Oda Nobunaga, Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Tokugawa Ieyasu) of that tumultuous period of Japanese history. The series will be scripted by Tabuchi Kumiko, who also wrote last year's taiga "Atsuhime."

Thank god! Shame though that Nagase Tomoya got paired up with the female JE-bad-actor equivalent Fukada Kyoko.
well, to be fair. even though i agree that she is a baaaaaaaaaad actress but she does look cute next to Tomoya and have some sort of chemistry. I loved them in Kanojo ga shinjiyatta and Futari. _________________

Takao Osawa travels through time for "Jin"
Wed, July 22, 2009 (1:44am EDT)
The previously announced live-action adaptation of Motoka Murakami's manga "Jin" will be aired on TBS this fall. Leading the cast is actor Takao Osawa (41), who has not acted in a serial drama since "Mukashi no Otoko" in 2001.
The original manga tells the story of brain surgeon Jin Minakata (Osawa), who falls into a "time slip" that sends him back to Edo during the Bakumatsu period in the 19th century. Still being serialized in the magazine Super Jump, the comic has sold more than 1.6 million copies of the 15 volumes released so far in tankoubon format.
The show will also feature actress Miki Nakatani (33), who has similarly not appeared in a drama series since 2002. She will play two roles - Jin's fiancee in the present day, and an oiran in Edo's Yoshiwara district.
Haruka Ayase (24) will also play a major role as Jin's assistant. Other cast members include Masaaki Uchino, Fumiyo Kohinata, Tetsuya Takeda, Keisuke Koide, Yumi Aso, Naho Toda, Hiromasa Taguchi, and Kenta Kiritani.
TBS will broadcast "Jin" on Sunday nights at 9:00pm, starting in October.

Star-studded cast. I read the manga and like the first few volumes a lot, but it won't be easy for them to re-create the atmosphere and feel of the manga... It's mainly about

using modern medical knowledge and techniques to treat/operate patients, within the limitations that existed in the Edo era.

I'll be impressed if they could recreate the situation! Saying that, fall already looking good for me with this and Fumou Chitai! _________________
