Synopsis :
Parental love is a universal theme. There are a lot of stories about father and son, mother and daughter, but few about mother and son. In Japan at least, men who love and cherish their mother are regarded as "mamma's boys": wishy-washy guys who run home to mommy whenever they have a problem.
What do the "mamma's boys" have to say? "All men are mamma's boys! If we can't love our own mother, how can we love our girlfriend and wives?!"
Shingo Okazaki is a 28-year old guy who isn't ashamed to say openly that he loves his mother very much. One woman falls in love with him. It's 31-year old Hitomi Sugiura. She thinks it's beautiful that her boyfriend values his relationship with his mother, but is irritated because Shingo always puts his mother before herself. She is starting to have second thoughts about marrying Shingo.

Just announced! Or at least this is the first time I saw it on the kiku tv website. But apparently, there's a new series finally, called suekko chonan ane sannin and it starts October 24th at 8-9pm. Looks like kiku is finally starting to deliver the goods with their in-house translation team! Does anyone know anything about the series btw?

Nope, it's also been a while since I visited the Kiku boards. Nothing they play interest me at all. Even the message board is starting to get old.
But it's good to hear that they have a new drama coming in!
About time, rather! _________________

agreed, the message board is admittedly kinda dead right now, but that's only because there's a lack of new drama's coming in, and kiku has lost a lot of viewers and interest, IMO. Hopefully with all these new shows coming in, that will change, and it will renew interest in kiku and ressurect the message board with more interesting discussion and speculation, etc. But apparently, you're still browsing through the message boards occasionally because you seem to know that the same yuki posted the women of the onsen question here too. I still frequent the message boards, but I rarely look at the main page, which is where they post up the new shows. I had kinda given up the hope that they would post anything new, but good thing I did.
and NOTHING they play interests you at all? Not even the great Shinsengumi series? Now that's interesting. Even when they weren't showing anything new, I still had to turn into kiku every week just to see Shinsengumi. That show has definitely got my attention and it's probably one of the best taiga dorama I've seen and has held my interest this much, even Musashi, and even that was painfully slow at times. Well, anyway, now you have a reason to post at the boards again, if the series is any good. Cool and hilarious icon btw. Where is that from?

I don't watch Shinsengumi at all.
Not interesting at all IMO. I guess I'm kinda particular on the actors and whatnot. It's too slapstick IMO and I don't think that a group such as Shinsengumi should be portrayed in such a way. Yeah yeah yeah, I know it's a drama and all, but still. Do it like it's meant to be.
I only remember Yuki because a person once posted on the Kiku boards (but the username was Yuki) sometime ago. (Feb 2004???) _________________

you'd be very surprised if you only watched Shinsengumi at the very beginning and watched a recent episode now. The series has changed drastically since the beginning and they're now getting into the central story arc. It's been deadly serious as of late with lots of fighting and the Ikedaya incident. It's too bad you didn't continue watching, there are some truly great episodes lately. No more "slapstick", as you say, anymore. Just pure, unadulterated taiga dorama seriousness. And it's very intense and engaging right now, almost like you can't miss an episode. The humor and slapstick feeling was only in the beginning when they were going for that more lighthearted mood to introduce the characters, but as the series progresses, in true taiga, or any drama for that matter, fashion, the story gets much darker, as incidents occur that change things greatly and the characters are put in more intense, dramatic situations. And this series does it better than any other.

Gonna check out last week's one on Sunday and the following one on Tuesday!
From there, I'll make my judgements. _________________

It's a family drama of sorts....basically, a woman marries a younger man and moves into his family house. He's the oldest son, but has 3 older sisters, who for various reasons, decide to move back home as well, making their newlywed life....interesting. A lot of the story involves trying to get the sisters to leave. Toss in an eccentric mother and the fact that nobody knows that the bride is older than the husband and that's pretty much the set-up...
Same here, Aho. But we've gone through this on the Shinsengumi and Musashi threads...

Agreed. Too much jpop-ish boy power to take seriously. Hmm, time to revisit my Musashi discs again...
