Upcoming Summer Dorama (starting in July in Japan)
FujiTV
Slow Dance
- Tsumabuki Satoshi, Fukatsu Eri
Eri Fukatsu! Tanoshimi ni suru. According to the report, Slow Dance will be a "happy, enjoyable drama" as opposed to the likes of weepies like Winter Sonata and Sekai no chuushin.
Eri Fukatsu plays Makino Isaki an apparel store manager who abhors evasiveness, is a capable career woman but hopeless when it comes to love. Tsumabuki Satoshi stars as Serizawa Riichi who aims to be a movie director (?) but is now a youth in normal employment; unwilling to give up his dream, Riichi is in a quandry.
They first meet at a coffee shop Riichi patronises regularly when Riichi discovers that the drink he ordered didn't taste right and headed to the cashier to make a complaint.

Is it me or a lot of thse dramas seem to be based off mangas?
Well, the large majority of them are based off novels moreso than ever.
Here are some popular ones that are from fictional novels & manga (comics):
- Sekai no Chuushin de Ai wo Sakebu [novel --> movie]
- Minami-kun no Koibito [manga --> tv drama --> mini novel]
- Densha no Otoko [novel --> tv drama]
- Anego [novel --> tv drama]
- H2 [manga --> tv drama]
- Ace wo Nerae [manga --> tv drama]
- Attack No. 1 [manga --> tv drama]
- Fugoh Keiji [novel --> tv drama]
- Suna no Utsuwa [novel --> tv drama]
- Shiroi Kyoto [novel --> tv drama]
- Hikaru to Tomo ni [manga --> tv drama]
- Sky High [manga --> tv drama]
- Dr. Kotoh [manga --> tv drama]
2005 hasn't really impressed me drama-wise, I am hoping that this summer's lineup is refreshing. Fukatsu Eri is a staple among famous drama female leads who acts extremely well, I'm interested in her drama with Tsumabuki, but don't wish to see another "Suekko" in which she dates then marries a younger man.

doinkies is looking forward to Slow Dance (because it'll be Hirosue Ryoko's first J-drama since Moto Kare), Dragonzakura (YAMA-PI!!!!) and Ganbatte Ikimasshoi...but Ima, Ai ni Yukimasu looks a LOT like a ripoff of SekaChuu. I hope doinkies will be mistaken, though.

"Ima, Ai ni Yukimasu" is based on the hit novel/movie starring Takeuchi Naoko.
It's a story about woman who has died but goes back to see her family and life of her husband and son. Mimura is playing the main female role. I am not sure how it'll turn out that--Sekachuu turned out very well for such a depressing movie/novel where everyone already knew the ending but watched anyway. Since these dramas are riding mostly off the fame of the films/novels they represent, I think that plenty of people know the story, so they must do a good job.
2005.06.08 release: Original DVD Drama, STARRING AI Directed by Kouzou Nagayama."Tokyo Friends" A 5 episode drama about a simple rural town girl (Ai) traveling to Tokyo. There she gets to meet a few people who she ends up befriending. It's a story of their trials together. _________________

I thought it translated to more like "Little Black Leather Book"...
Oops! Clarification: the Japanese title is actually "Matsumoto Seicho Kurokawa no Techou Special - Shiroi Yami," so figured the special is called "Black Notebook Special - White Darkness". Don't know about the Matsumoto Seicho bit though.
