If the Mayans had such great foresight, why didn't they anticipate their own demise? People have been predicting the end of the world since the dawn of mankind, and so far every one of them has made a fool of himself. And people who think that natural disasters are a new phenomenon are making even greater fools of themselves.

technically, the Mayan calendar doesn't END, it resets. And since, there were no recorded APOCALYPSE ~5122 years ago, you should feel pretty stupid if you believe in it.

It'll only be Doomsday in 2012 if Sarah Palin runs for President and wins.

Here is a different viewpoint on the Year 2012 that I found on the e-zine cosmic lighthouse site in the Metaphysics 101 section:

2012 & Great Shift


The year 2012 is often mentioned in relation to the fact that the ancient Mayan calendar is due to end on 21st December 2012. According to the Mayan elders, it marks the end of an old era and the beginning of a new one. Astrologically, it also roughly coincides with the transition to the Age of Aquarius from the Age of Pisces. Some propose that 2012 will also see a very rare (once every 26,625 years) galactic alignment between the Sun, Earth and the centre of the Milky Way.

Lee Carroll explains the galactic alignment:

The Galactic Alignment is the alignment of the December solstice sun with the Galactic equator. This alignment occurs as a result of the precession of the equinoxes.

Precession is caused by the earth wobbling very slowly on its axis and shifts the position of the equinoxes and solstices one degree every 71.5 years. Because the sun is one-half of a degree wide, it will take the December solstice sun 36 years to precess through the Galactic equator.

This 26,000-year precessional cycle shifts the apparent position of the sun, on the December solstice, backward through the signs of the zodiac. This leads to the observation (as viewed from the earth) that the December solstice sun is moving "around" the Galactic Center, coming into alignment with it once every 26,000 years. This is the galactic alignment. It is a name given to a relative perception of the stars while observing from the earth.

Many channelings have also pointed to this time being the marker for the great shift or transition to take place. However, the shift is generally described to take place over a time period that began in the last century, and the year 2012 is when the effects will be more fully felt. The transition is about a raising of our vibrations, also known as the ascension of humanity from the 3rd to 4th dimension (sometimes known as density).

This time (over a period of years) is also proposed by certain teachers as the gradual entry of Earth into the photon belt, a band of very high vibrational energy that is supposed to help raise the vibrations of Earth and all lifeform on it, hence enabling us to make the transition to a higher dimension.

Another viewpoint is that our DNA consists of certain "codes" that will be activated to transform the human being in a quantum leap into one who is again aware of his own divinity - that he is connected to the All That Is.

In the book Preparing Ourselves for the Great Shift, Russell Boulding wrote:

Various lines of evidence suggest that the Great Shift coincides with the ending of a 26,000 year cycle. This 26,000 year cycle, related to the precession of the solstices/equinoxes arising from the tilt in the Earth's axis of rotation, is recognized in the Mayan calendar and the Hindu Vedic tradition. It can also be derived from the I Ching and roughly coincides with a 24,000 year astrologic cycle marking the shift to the Age of Aquarius. An interesting aspect of the ending of the current cycle in the evolutionary drama on planet Earth is that it coincides with an alignment between the Earth, the Sun and the center of the Milky Way Galaxy.

It is generally agreed that the year 2012 is a marker rather than a fixed and specific timeframe. The time of the shift is determined by the state of the mass consciousness and it could happen earlier or later. Most, however, would agree that we are already in the process of the shift. Some see the recent earth changes as very much to do with the cleansing by Mother Earth of the old energies and preparing for the new. Others see the weather changes simply as a part of a larger Earth cycle.

Jennifer Hoffman from Uriel Heals suggests what it could mean:

We are at a crossroads between the material and spiritual worlds and giving birth to the new earth in the process. This is not a new country, planet or location, it is a vibrational shift that is the fulfillment of our desire for transformation and an end of one aspect of our spiritual journey and the beginning of another. The new earth cannot be defined as a single experience, it will represent many things for many people. But the process of birthing the new earth may be challenging and confusing and like giving birth, at times downright painful...

... And the promise of the new earth is one of blessings, the peace that passes all understanding and joy beyond our imagining.

While the year 2012 is very often linked to the great shift, some parties do not associate themselves too much with 2012. They generally agree that we are in the midst of a shift in human consciousness that will take place gradually over a number of years to an era of love and peace.

I hope there is Alien in 2012...

I heard they are building massive ships in China to prepare for the end of times. Only the rich and select few have a ticket aboard these "arcs". If you don't have a ticket prepare to die with the rest. Seriously though, the only thing I'm worried about is solar flares.

If these arcs are built according to the specs of other Chinese buildings I'd be glad I don't have a ticket.

Wet pot sticker skins don't hold up as well as steel.
