again this post was not based on my opinion
it was based on what i heard about Japanese entertainment
except for the adam sandler thing | i think that you weren't being bashed for your opinions. i think that people may find it a little condenscending in that you want to force your opinions into people, and they may not have liked that a bit. _________________

agreed. defending an opinion by telling others "you people do not understand" and trying to defend such arrogant exposition won't win you any allies with those who actually KNOW about "comedy in Japan" in relation to the argument at hand.... which IS childish.
you're not a victim. _________________

I really do not agree with a lot of this thread. there is plenty of comedy in Japan. It may be in a little different form than in the U.S.
Most of us have seen several drama's which feature comedy Mukodono, Narita Rikon, Antique etc. and these are drama's. There are plenty of hilarious game shows, and talk shows which comedy is the key element. Maybe you are getting a slanted idea by watching some of the more serious drama's and or news programs??? _________________ From the Simpsons

Excuse me....
Steve Allen once said that if you try to dissect something funny you destroy it. You can't explain funny. Either it is or it isn't. All depends on the sense of humour of the person listening or watching.
As an old English lady with that sense of humour I must admit I wasn't all that impressed with US wit at first. However having been used to Laurel and Hardy and their peers and then some of the light comedies that came later on..I got used to, and made room for, another kind of humour. That stretched my mindset a little.English can be sharp and very witty but it can also be very bawdy and that does not always
do so well out of the UK. It's the mindset.
Now if you want to talk about Japanese humour. ..Tell me why I laugh my fool head off at some of the shows that I watch. I don't understand the language but the sense of humour gets to me. I love Bistro Smap when they have funny guests. I don't know why Kimura falls about laughing at Sanma and Kippei. Some of the guests are new to me but they must be very funny and this show is not closely scripted so I guess Japanesse have a great sense of humour. There are others..
I was surprised when I first watched Japanese and Korean TV to find that emotions were expressed so strongly. Laughter, sadness, Joy. The only
emotion not so openly expressed was that of Love.
Forgive ramblings..but this became an interesting thread.
Peg
PS. Remember Fernandel? He was funny enough to walk through walls and you believed he could do it.
