In a one on one combat who do you think will win the battle? A knight or a samurai?

Tough call, but a knight has that freaking armor, neh?

Unless the samurai can make his cut in the right place (like the joints, etc.) I don't think his sword can hack through that armor...

On the other hand, the samurai is much more mobile/maneuverable than the guy in the clunky armor...

Agreed! ...Uh. I still can't make up my mind. Probably knight then. Since if the samurai can't cut through the armor, they got no game...

But the samurai could quickly get behind the knight and stab or cut him in the non-armored areas...

Like I said, tough call...

Ah... That's true, but the knight's pretty well protected though... Places like the head and the heart, which is life-threatening when hurt, is covered... If the samurai cuts the leg, it probably won't kill them.
OKAY. I think I'll stop now. ^^

Knight all the way! As cool as a samurai looks, no one could ever defeat the knight Duke Lion!!!
After hearing the song or seeing the music video (Duke Lion) anyone would vote Knight.

I think most of you guys are confusing a samurai with a ronin.

Samurai do wear armour when they go to war. Ronin are the ones that go around without any armour.

Yeah, but the armor worn by a knight is considerably more heavy duty than a samurai's armor...

Common samurai had armor made of lamellae pieces laced together with colorful cords. The lightweight armor allowed for greater freedom of movement and was light, so it was easier on the horse, (knights have much heavier bred horses to accomidate the weight of the knights's gear), which could even move faster. The knights of Europe though, wore a lot of armor, and eventually they wore an entire emetalf suit, which gave them a lot of trouble in movement, and was much, much heavier than what the samurai wore-plus, it must have literally killed some of them during the summer due to so much heat. After all, the medieval knight wore a lot of layers of clothing AND armor. So, yes, BMW, the knights armor is stronger, but allowed a more restrictive flow of movement.
Boy, this is a tough, but intriguing duel. Both have it's stong points. They are both excellent horsemen, masters of numerous weopons (knights use (mostly): various swords, lances (when on horseback), maces. Samurais employed: Poison tipped arrow (they are excellent archers) when on horse back, when off they wield the katana and the wakizashi OR the naginata, an excellent weapon used against horse mounted enemies, and like we talked about, have armors that suit they're fighting style.

I will vote for the samurai ONLY because of their workmanship and excellent work on their katana, their bread and butter weapon. They are so sharp, they can literally slice a man in two (which was one of the way they use to execute prisoners) and very light. Very close indeed.

Yep. Like I said earlier, it's a tough call.

The knight's armor is solid, if cumbersome. And his sword is big, heavy, and not particularly sharp... More for hacking than cutting.

The samurai's armor is lighter and allows him to be more nimble, but also more vulnerable, particularly to a heavy sword like the knight's... And yeah, the katana is super-sharp...

Now that I think about it some more, I'd give the nod to the samurai, 'cause of his mobility... He could tire out the knight in his heavy armor, then go in for the kill... Big Grin

with the samurai, there are so many pubs on the great katana, but very underated is the naginata. awesome against the defense. hey BM-Dub, there is a naginata club close to where you live: Check it.

I picked the knight! Why? They're noble, brave, rescue a maid from a danger, fairy tale-ish and nothing beats a good sword fight! I used to read knight stories Smile Long live the medieval!

uh....pemu, we're talking about a duel here, so all that about rescuing a damsel in distress is mute. BTW, they are less nobel than you think. It wasn't until the time of the story of king arthur that made the knights into the heros that they are known today. before that, they were merely a little bit more than a royal henchman. Sorry to bust your bubble dude. Wink

Yo niko who is that hotty on your avatar? I pick a samuari for their skill in combat especially with sword. I should have pose the question this way "if the knight and the samurai were both naked and all they have was their sword which will win over the other?" In my mind there is no doubt that the samurai would win.
