Did anyone else get the feeling that there was some homo-erotic tension or symbolism in tonight's episode?

***SPOILER ALERT!***

First Yoshitsune totally ignores Utsubo and gets upset when she says he's the reason she's there, the Fujiwara heir immediately wanted him closer to his own mansion after getting rescued, Yoshitsune turned down the marriage/concubinage offers, and then he has some nice grappling with with the younger Sato brother. I'm pretty sure there was a few winks between Yoshitsune and Benkei too.

Not that there'd be anything wrong with Yoshitsune being gay or bi-sexual...it's just that his total lack of decisiveness in relationships seems strange. It's not the same feeling I got when I read about him in Japanese history.

What episode was that?

Artisitic license, most likely.

I assumed there would be signifigant artistic license in this one, after Shinsengumi....

I don't think we're there yet in SoCal.

But in previous episodes I did mention (jokingly) that he appeared to be rather effeminate... I wonder what the screenwriter's/director's angle was...? Rolling eyes

And that's why I stopped watching it after a couple of episodes.

Can someone please clear something up for me? How old was Shanao(takizawa) when he left the temple? I remember the first episode said that he was born in 1158/9. Then in episode 4, it says 1171, wouldn't that make him 13 years old? One of the episode also mentioned that his older brother had been exiled for 10 years.

If he is 13, how on earth was he able to fight the monk and other ppl? Not to mention that he must be the tallest 13 year old around.

Hmm, not really sure. Our resident Japanese historian, Kitakaze, might know...

And as mentioned before, dramas have a habit of altering time frames and stuff, so a young kid battling that monk shouldn't be that much of a surprise in order to keep the plot interesting... Wink

I perfectly understand about altering time frame and such, but still, they can't have someone aging 15 years while the rest age 10 years. that's ridiculous.

if he is 13 years, I would love to get some of those drugs that he must have been using Smile

I am not from US, no one here plays baseball. in fact, only reason I even know what is baseball is cos I read Adachi's H2 and Touch Smile

I know takki is short, but he isn't that short to be able to pass for a 13 year old.

Does anyone know about the timeline of the story?

Taiga dramas have never really been that accurate, especially with actors' aging.

What kind of timeline do you mean? I don't want to give away potential spoilers.

Oh, welcome to the boards! Smile

***SPOILER ALERT***

Man...I'll have to drop my Yoshitsune/Benkei homoerotic jokes...Yoshitsune basically professed his love for Shizuka (okay, he only said he didn't want her to leave Kamakura, but for a Japanese, that's big). And looking at her, I really don't blame him Smitten. Looks like she managed to accelerate Kuro's puberty....

Too bad...it's gotten pretty interesting the last few episodes. It just set up the future Yoritomo/Yoshitsune conflict too. Of course...I guess I do have the historians interest in it too.

I guess no one watches this anymore, but now I can't make Benkei jokes. He found himself a woman.
