Where have you been?
It's been a couple of years.... At least... |
It has. I had simmered down after I blew up the last time, but life has a way of pulling you away. Months become years and here we are. I can't even contribute much because I haven't watched much of anything since way back when. Glad you still recognize me.
gaijinmark,
I saw a bit of one episode, and it looked quite good, even though the actor was kind of freaky. He was portraying Uesugi Kenshin and he looked like he walked out of a manga. Scene was very well done though. Unfortunately, glimpses is all I can muster these days.

I vaguely remember the incident, but I had no idea it would've lasted this long...
Good to see an old member return.

Warning! There are spoilers!
Well then welcome back Kijinnmaru =D. Nice to meet you.
Yeah you should check out Fuurin Kazan. Don't refuse to watch it because Gackt is in it. He is alright (I'm at episode 46 now) and all the other actors and actresses are great. Kansuke isn't a pretty boy and is really likeable and Yuu-hime played by new comer Shibamoto Yuki is also great.
Yoshitsune is a starcasting even though they didn't make it too much like in Shinsengumi oO. Shinsengumi was horrible I couldn't even watch the first episode. In Yoshitsune I don't like Tackey: He depicted Yoshitsune way too naive. I doubt, that the real one was as naive as this one. I think the real one was even plotting against Yoritomo. Well and his affairs are reduced to Shizuka, because Yoshitsune needed to be depicted as faithful, because Tackey plays him . Of course Yoshitsune NEVER touched his legal wife and never had a four year old daughter (sarcasm xD).
I also don't like some actresses in Yoshitsune: Koiko Eiko who plays the fictional Tomoe Gozen who is unjustly hyped (I also don't like the Tomoe Gozen in legends etc... ). Ishihara Satomi who doesn't have chemestry with Tackey at all as Shizuka.
The ones I liked were: Abe Hiroshi as Tomomori, Nakai Kiichi as Yoritomo, Zaizen Naomi as Hojo Masako, Inamori Izumi as Tokiwa and Nakagoshi Noriko as Kenreimon'in.
In the end I was even on Yoritomos side .

Those two guys are always watchable, whatever they're in... They're really solid "A"-list actors.

And in Tackey's case, effete.

No kidding. I saw the previews when he was leading a charge down a hill. His war cry sounded like someone started the car with a cat sleeping in the engine. I think the Japanese government revoked his man card at that point and banned him from all future samurai roles.

Now the big question: how did he get a man card in the first place?

Affirmative action? But I'll stop; I was raised not to beat on girls.
But back to the show, I think this raises good points for the writers of Taiga Dorama's or any drama. Scripts should not be your "baby". Shinsengumi! was written to be a "Shingo showpiece"; the script was purely for propping up the actor, and I use that very liberally. That was the writer's intention all along. The same with Yoshitsune. It was written where Yoshitsune was the writer's baby, and he must be pure and angelic. Didn't help that neither lead actors were any good, but at least they drew in the automatic fanbase.

I'll say.
I'm surprised he didn't have a bleach blond topknot.

It's Masato Sakai from the movie Mibugishiden in what I consider the best and likely most accurate portrayal of Okita Souji. He just slaughtered a whole bunch of guys in a raid. He's also in Shinsengumi! as Yamanami Keisuke, one of the very few "diamonds" in that turd.
If I had Taky in my avatar, I'd have to beat the crap out of myself.
