I don't know enough Japanese to watch a drama without subs. I like to know what's going on.

But then someone just released "Tokyo Friends" raw on d-addicts.com with Otsuka Ai. I downloaded it and watched it and I did like it. Mostly because Otsuka Ai plays an aspiring singer and so she sings a lot in the show Smile

I guess I'll just have to learn Japanese now.

did watched drama without sub sometimes when i just cant help it.... i think the first one i watched without sub is the rerun of gokusen ( well, they dont sub it on japan do they? ) but i already the whole story coz i watched it on mandarin dub twice or trice already , then followed by yoshitsune on nhk and gokusen2 which i downloaded raw ... sometimes it is really hard to understand, but if u try to keep watching it over and over again, you'll get into the story line anyway and besides gesture speaks louder than words Bleah now am watching engine with and without soft-sub, it is fun ( at least i can test how much do i really understand ) fun way of learning japanese... coz with subtitles, i tend to look on the sub instead of listening to what the actor/actress is saying....

I watch raw series all the time, chinese or malay subs don't really help cause I don't read those languages.

I can understand roughly 75% of a japanese dialogue...I can follow somewhat, it's still frustrating though, so fansubs are a GODSEND.

I don't usually watch a series if it doesn't have subtitles, but now I'm making an exception for some of the RAWS that are being posted on D-addicts such as "engine" -- I've started to pick up about 1/2 of what's going on in the dialogue. =) I probably will end up watching an entire series without subs starting this season though. Hopefully I won't get too lost. Sweat

Once I tried to watch a drama - I think it was Little Hospital - but I didn't understand almost nothing. I want to learn japanese, but first I have to find a good teacher.

In the past, I avoided watching raw files at all costs because I don't know Japanese so watching raws was pointless. But after I became more familiar with Jdramas, I start to like more and more actors/actresses. Then my addiction began. Basically, if the drama has my fav. actor in it and the storyline sounds interesting enough, I'm willing to watch it raw. Of course, that drama has to have a high probability of being subbed too (last spring dramas, I downloaded the raws for only the 3 that are being subbed: Tiger&Dragon, Engine and With Ame after a Dream).
This season, however, I can't help it. There're like 4, 5 dramas I want to watch so badly. So I just dl them and watch them raws, and secretly pray that some kind ppl would pick it up and sub it.
Btw, not being able to understand raw file dramas has motivated me to take Japanese course in Uni. So, hopefully, in the near future, I can watch the drama in Japanese audio without the English subs and still understand what the drama is about Sweat ...
