One of my favorite football books is Tony Razzanofs gSecrets of an NFL Scouth. Razzano was the head of scouting for the Niners during the Bill Walsh era.
According to Razzano, the Easley/Lott debate was one of the loudest they ever had in Ninerland. Bill Walsh wanted Kenny Easley. And according to Tony; ghe wanted him badlyh.
But both Razzano and the then Niners secondary coach George Seifert were dead set on getting Ronnie Lott. Both Razzano and Seifert loved Lott because they knew they could start him off at Corner, and then move him back to Safety once he learned the defense and got used to life in the NFL.
It seems the shouting was still going on on draft day. While the scout and the secondary coach were telling Walsh that Lott would be great, Walsh was on the phone trying to trade up to get Easley.
In the end, the Seahawks made the decision for them. They grabbed Easley before Walsh could get to him.

Sometimes Santa smiles on you.
Great story. In hindsight, things turned out well for the Niners--they got a great player who had a long productive career. And although the Seahawks got six outstanding years out of Easley (5 pro bowls, 4-time first team all-pro, 1-time second team all-pro, 1983 AFC Defensive Player of the Year, 1984 NFL Defensive Player of the Year), it's a shame A) his career got cut short by illness, and B) as a pro he never got to play on a national stage ( play-offs, Super Bowl) like Lott did--pro football fans missed out on watching a great great player.

Good start to the college football season. Major upset (BYU over Oklahoma); minor upset (Boise St. over Oregon); near upset (Ohio St. squeaking past Navy); and an immensely entertaining game (Miami/Florida St.) to finish up the three-day opening weekend.

Well the season starts with the Steelers and the Titans .... And so far the first to score was the Steelers but the game was (0-0) for almost half of the game ... just almost
but now the game is tied which to me is can of weird becuase Polamalu is out because of an injury and the defense just went ... \
well its just the first half so we will see _________________
I watched the entire Georgia Tech/Clemson game, so I only caught the last few minutes of the Steelers vs. the Titans.
The NFL is great, but, given a choice, I prefer the college game over the pros for many reasons. Watching Georgia Tech last night reminded me of one of those reasons--great fight songs.
So, another list--my top 5 college fight songs:
1. Michigan's "Hail to the Victors"
2. Texas A & M's "Aggie War Hymn"
3. Georgia Tech's "Ramblin' Wreck from Georgia Tech"
4. Cal's "Fight for California"
5. Texas' "Texas Fight"
Oh yeah, and while not a fight song, Ohio State marching band's Script Ohio has got to be the greatest band-related football tradition ever.

The fight songs are probably the reason I prefer the NFL to College ball.
Hearing the same piece of music more than once in a day is like fingernails on a blackboard for me. So you can imagine how annoying the same fight song, played over and over again, for every TD, every kick, every first down, is.
The only way I can watch a USC game (I think they're the worst) is to do so with the sound muted.
For some reason that tends to tick off anyone else watching the game with me. _________________
