Anime Dad wrote: | The only reason I haven't seen this movie yet is because of the lack of Japanese actresses. I loved the book, and I was very disappointed to find out that the leads were all Chinese I guess I will watch it one day.
I saw an episode the other night of Law & Order : CI where they tried to pass off a Chinese actress as Japanese. She didn't look Japanese at all! |
I know exactly what you and bmw and Tu are saying and I am not Asian. I watch an American daytime soap called The Young and the Restless. They recently added a storyline where a cosmetics company called The House of Kim that has been in business for 30 years based in Japan was introduced. The President of the company was Mr. Kim and the VP's name was Mrs. Li. First of all I thought that the family name of Kim was a Korean name and the name of Li was Chinese. Why would a Korean cosmetics company be based in Japan? The actor who played Mr. Kim looked Japanese to me and the actress who played Mrs. Li I wasn't sure but she definitely did not look Japanese. So guess who is writing to CBS to give them a piece of my mind about their blatant ignorance in this matter. C'mon folks it is time to represent cultures correctly!

Are you serious....Kim as Japanese...that's totally ridiculous.....KIM is one of the MOST prevalent Korean family names.....and there is no way in hell that somebody who is ethnically Japanese would have the name of "KIM" or "LI." That is SO OFF it's not only insulting but it's EMBARASSINGLY STUPID.

Is The Young and the Restless STILL going? Amazing. Although, nothing in that show even approaches reality, so a Japanese firm called The House of Kim is definitely possible. |
|
Yes the kicker of the new storyline is that the House of Kim is a really run by a rich white American guy who wanted to use the Asian cosmetics company as a front to buy back his late father's cosmetics company in the USA. Which he just did. Even so they still could have gotten their facts right.
Yes Y&R wins lots of Daytime Emmys. If you go to CBS.com they have a Feedback Form where you can send your comments to them. It is feedback time!
