Buck O'Neil, Negro League baseball great, dies at 94

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Buck O'Neil, the goodwill ambassador for the Negro Leagues who fell one vote shy of the Hall of Fame, died Friday night. He was 94.

Bob Kendrick, marketing director for the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, said O'Neil died at a Kansas City hospital.

A star in the Negro Leagues who barnstormed with Satchel Paige, O'Neil later became the first black coach in the majors. Baseball was his life -- in July, he batted in a minor league All-Star game.

Shake Head I hope the one ASSHOLE that didn't vote for Buck O'Neil is happy now.

Really sad news... I feared the worst when I heard he was in the hospital... Puppy Dog Eyes

After watching Ken Burns' Baseball countless times (I have the DVD set), I was so impressed by his affability and positive attitude amidst the segregation at the time he played baseball... A fascinating and special human being. Smile

Condolences to his friends and family. Puppy Dog Eyes

That one judge probably had no idea of the historical significance of Buck O'Neil's importance in the overall history of baseball. Just have to pity that judge. Shake Head

Thank you Mr. Buck O'Neil!!!! May Buck O'Neil Rest In Peace.

The Dodger pitching staff is tanking in the playoffs again.

And the ex-Dodgers Lo Duca and Green are sticking it too them. The irony tortures me to no end. Shake Head bleh Puppy Dog Eyes
