May as well toss my hat into the wind on this one (gonna hit me in the face, I'm sure ). If you give up on an entire genre of programming just because the current season's ratings are poor or you are not interested, do what the rest of us do: go back to the series that were airing before you started watching J-Drama and start there.
The winter months always seem to be the slow ones for English subs, so right now I'm catching up on series I've been wanting to watch such as Hero, Wedding Planner, etc., not because the ratings are low, not because I don't want to watch the new ones coming out, but because I have that option.
Also, if you only watch series with only 2 particular actors in it, you're wasting chances for wonderful series out there. I for one have expanded my viewership on many series and often watch a series specifically because of an actor I liked in a previous series I just watched (ie watched Dragon Zakura because I loved Abe's work in Kekkon Dekinai, because of the actors in Dragon Zakura I'm now interested in watching their run in Proposal Daisakusen, etc.).
Meh...to each their own, like I said probably talking to myself here. Either way, while I will admit a few of the series this season have started slow, there are still gems coming to light.

I'm glad the law-comedy 'Sasaki' is doing pretty well, but I rank 'Kita Yoshio' to be definetely one of the best of the season and still..
Ah well, Utahime had really low ones and it was the pearl of last season
It was also kind of surprising that the ratings of the Flower Shop dropped, after all the praise it got from the media after the first episode. _________________

Not by my count...*points to Atsuhime at the bottom* It's not doing bad though; most of them are doing rather well...except most of ones I'm watching (One Pound Gospel, Hachimitsu to Kuroba and Ashita no Kita Yoshio ).

Yeah... by the way, I find it weird that the media was making a fuss of how the Winter Drama's Start Ratings topped by SMAP members with Katori's drama as #1 with 22.4% rating, and Inagaki's drama as #2 with 17.3% rating.
So, they don't count Atsu-Hime as a winter drama? But back in 2004, they counted NHK's Shinsengumi in as the top ratings in the winter season, together with PRIDE, Suna no Utsuwa and Boku2Kanojo

The season is just extremely weak, IMHO. There's nothing standing out that could be considered a classic, only things that are good 'in the present' really. Like I've mentioned before, this is a good time to catch up on all those dramas I have overlooked / hadn't seen since starting.
It's kinda amazing considering most of the time this is when the ratings are HIGHER due to the weather.

Yup. The irony of fans of pretty boys. I'm a fangirl myself but I'd never given up on something good just because none of my fav stars are in it. It's a shame, really.
you mean people actually gave up dramas just because their fav boys/gals are not in it??!!!
Oh man... I can never do that. Cos if I'm like that, I would have NOTHING to watch!!! _________________
