Some of my add-ons aren't compatible, so I'm holding off upgrading.

That's what I was afraid of... I think I'll try it out on my download/BT PC before installing it on my main one.

Prior to installing FF4 I used to be able to just type in whatever I was searching for in the field reserved for the internet address and it would use Google by default and search for whatever key word(s) I plugged in. Now that functionality doesn't seem to be available on FF 4. Is it possible to set that up as it was on FF 3.xx?
Any thoughts are appreciated. |
You mean the dedicated Google search window in Firefox?

No not the little window commonly found off to the right. The actual window where you enter the internet address, i.e. http://jdorama.com.
In FF3 I could just enter key words or search terms in that window and it would direct me to relevant hits.

I'm using FF 4.0.1 and that feature still seems to work for me...

Actually, I never even knew that function existed... Maybe a setting in Options?

Quick question.
On your FF4 browser when you type in about:config then hit Enter and search for "keyword.url" what value do you have listed there that enables google searches from the location bar?

For keyword.URL: default - string - (blank)
For keyword.enabled: default - boolean - true

That's odd... You'd think the previous settings would be carried over into FF4.

Yeah, that makes sense.
It definitely wasn't the previous setting! The value had some thing that said "chrome, blah blah blah..." I don't even have Google Chrome on my computer.

One thing I really hated with FF 4 is that, when the tabs are on top, pressing F6 no longer highlights the address bar. This is a 'shortcut' I use all the time, so I was hoping they'd fix it with FF 5. But the issue is still there. Maybe they don't see it as a problem.
