If so that might explain alot, I know if I load a site that is hosted in China it will load ALOT slower than a site in the United States which is where I live. It's possible that the old datacenter had better routing to China which would make the load times faster, however you could do a traceroute and maybe I could see something.

You can try doing a traceroute to the old datacenter and the new one.

tracert 208.101.45.170
tracert 208.122.8.192

Yes, I am stationed in China and live in Shanghai most of the time.

I tried the 'tracert' commands you suggested. Although I don't really know how to interpret the results, tracing the old server IP resulted in 13 hops while the new one requires 16 hops, and is noticeably slower between hops.

Doesn't look like there is much I can do. Or is there?

If you could paste the results here I could see more, however there is probably nothing you can do about that.

You could load fasterfox onto your firefox and try that out.

I vaguely remember there is a way to redirect screen output to a file in DOS. If you can tell me how to do that I'll capture the results of the traces and send them to you.

Thanks for the heads-up on Fasterfox, I'll give it a try.

Right click on the top of the ms-dos prompt and go to properties, enable quickedit mode, then you can highlight anything in the ms-dos window by holding down your left mouse button, once you've highlighted everything you want you press the right mouse button once, that will copy it.

As for saving it to a file you can just run, tracert 208.101.45.170 > C:\ping.txt

The DOS window closes as soon as the trace is complete - I don't actually get to see the complete result of the trace. Is there a way to pause it at the end of the trace run?

Actually I remembered this part. However for some reason the trace doesn't work when I add the redirection part and no txt file was created.

Firefox 3 Web browser is now out as free download

The new version of the Firefox Web browser became available as a free download Tuesday.

The release was delayed as visitors checking for the update overloaded Firefox's Web servers. The site was slow or unreachable for about two hours starting about 12:45 p.m. Eastern time, 15 minutes before the scheduled release time, according to AlertSite, an Internet performance monitoring company. Performance improved later in the day.

Firefox supporters organized launch parties around the world as they tried to set a world record for most software downloads in a 24-hour period.

The category is new, and Guinness World Records must certify it, a process that could take a week or longer.

Firefox comes from Mozilla, an open-source community in which thousands of people, mostly volunteers, collectively develop free products. Firefox is the No. 2 Web browser behind Microsoft Corp.'s Internet Explorer.

Firefox 3 includes enhancements to help users organize their frequently visited Web sites and block access to sites known to distribute viruses and other malicious software.

Users of Yahoo Inc.'s mail service can also use Firefox 3 to send e-mail by clicking a "mailto" link they might come across clicking on a name or a "contact us" link on a Web page. Previously such links could only open a standalone, desktop e-mail program.

Firefox 3 also offers other design and speed improvements.

I've been running it for a little while now.. it's pretty good - feels a lot quicker in a lot of ways, more sluggish in others. It's definitely an improvement over 2.. and I might try switching back to it for a while from IE, if it doesn't have the classic FF problems..

Oh, I really like the FF add-ons.

The thing that has always killed it for me is the tab-lock. You have one tab doing something and it stops the entire program - you can't open a new tab, you can't close that tab.. you can't do anything. My friend said they fixed it in 3 and I haven't seen it yet.. but we'll see... that has, in the past, prevented me from making it my primary browser.

Say what you will about IE - the tabs never stopped working and it has been more responsive when doing quick browsing.

Hopefully FF 3 will bring a change to that as there are things I definitely like about FF Smile
