The thing that has always killed it for me is the tab-lock. You have one tab doing something and it stops the entire program - you can't open a new tab, you can't close that tab.. you can't do anything. My friend said they fixed it in 3 and I haven't seen it yet.. but we'll see... that has, in the past, prevented me from making it my primary browser.

I've never seen that problem... Head Scratch

It's usually a problem when a page has a script that doesn't load properly.. it can freeze up and all the buttons for the program become unresponsive. Further, you can't just hit Stop and it'll stop running it - you usually have to wait it out or close the program.

Again, I haven't seen it yet, but if I do, I'll be more than happy to run IE again Smile I'm a consumer first - that which does what I need it to best is what I use. And I hope no one would tell me I'm wrong about that..

Sounds like a Java thing, not Firefox.

I'm more than sure I've visited pages with scripts, but haven't seen any unresponsiveness... *knocks on wood*

Did they have any benchmarks showing a significant improvement in the memory usage for this new version?

Already have it in the laptop, looks fine to me. The new add-ons menu is pretty functional, and doesn't have you going to the pages to download them.

Well, that didn't take long.... Sweat

Firefox 3 Vulnerability Found

Nancy Gohring, IDG News Service
Wed Jun 18, 8:00 PM ET

Five hours after Mozilla officially released Firefox 3.0, researchers found a vulnerability in the new browser.

Tipping Point has verified the bug and reported it to Mozilla, Tipping Point said on Wednesday.

Since Mozilla is still working on a fix, the researchers won't share details about the problem. Tipping Point ranked the severity of the vulnerability as high, but said that users would have to click on a link in an e-mail or visit a malicious Web page before being affected. The issue affects users of Firefox 3.0 as well as Firefox 2.0.

Once the problem is fixed, Tipping Point will publish an advisory on its Web site, it said.

Tipping Point found out about the vulnerability through its Zero Day Initiative, which lets researchers earn cash by submitting new vulnerabilities to the company. Once Tipping Point validates the issue, it pays the researcher for the information and notifies the relevant software vendor of the technical details.

Mozilla did not respond to a request for comment.

Mozilla launched its newest browser on Tuesday along with a marketing stunt that went a bit wrong. The company announced that it wanted to set a Guinness World Record for the largest number of software downloads in a 24-hour period. However, the volume of downloads crippled Mozilla's site, and so customers in the U.S. couldn't begin downloading the software until two hours later than expected. Still, Mozilla said it logged more than 8 million downloads within 24 hours. There is currently no record for number of software downloads in a day, but Mozilla must now wait for review of the stunt by Guinness officials.

Just in terms of speed, Mozilla opens this website so much faster than Firefox 3...there's no comparison!

Actually it's kinda strange - I've found that on some things it's super fast.. on others it takes like 3x longer than I'm used to. I've also ran into some irritating bugs (features?) that stop pages from loading properly and render many existing all wrong. Surely it's not all the browser's fault, and much of it is due to sloppy coding (I have web designer who bitch about this all the time), but if it don't look right and it's a page I access all the time, it's hard to justify.

I have to say though, all-in-all, it's a good experience.. but it's not quite what I hoped Sad I think all the add ins are great, but they don't make up for a so-far mediocre experience with the tool as a whole. Honestly, no browser really does what I want to it to do: render pages correctly and quickly. You can keep your add-ons if you can give me this without reservation.

I somehow doubt it, but maybe MS will come up with something great in IE8. Though, truth be told, for regular browsing, I find IE7 quite comfortable.

I've got the new version too.

My boyfriend showed me a cool add-on he'd found - PicLens, I think it's called. It shows pages as collections of pictures. On YouTube it's fab. You can also watch videos with less YouTube clutter.

I just installed Coolris (formerly known as PicLens) and enabled my Gallery 2 site to support it. It looks phat!

1. download & install the Cooliris plugin from http://www.cooliris.com/
2. restart Firefox
3. open http://scaturan.buriguri.jp/blog/v/motokariya-yuika/Domoto+Tsuyoshi+no+Shojiki+Shindoi+-+Motokariya+Yuika
4. hover a thumbnail and click double-arrowed popup-icon or simply locate and click the PicLens icon on the top-right corner of the web browser window.

ps. beamer will soon want one of these to power up his Ueno Juri collection. Yeah
