I guess Shinsengumi in OC doesnt give out their free Oolong tea, they offer ice water instead, nonetheless, their Hakata Pork Ramen, 1/2 serrving Fried Rice for $7.75 was good enough for me....Oishii desu!
sounds like a fine lunch.
here's a picture of the ramen you just had for lunch!

Ripoff indeed
prices of those bowls or ramen probably range from 8 to 10 US dollars....to think you can go to a fast food restaurant and get a combination meal and spend just slightly less in many places and no where near the flavor or satisfaction.

exactly.....
and actually the iced tea drink that use to be free on every purchase, is no longer being provided, atleast it wasn't today, and it is not Oolong, but a Barley tea...i believe.
i added an egg, for a dollar extra, and i love how they give you the options of hard, medium, or soft noodles, oils, and soup base, and any discarding...such as Ginger or anything else.

fully agreed...
the Hakata Ramen at Shinengumi is about $7 or so
and the Daikokuya ramen is about $7.50, and any additional noodle servings is a dollar extra...
the pork, ramen noodles, and soup base, is not comparable to any other ramen place in So Cal, that i know of...

thanks for the msg. it was a great dinner...truth be told that was the first time i had yakitori at shinsengumi...i was impressed and very satisfied with the food.....now i know why krim was praising the yakitori there as compared to other joints...the chicken there is incredibly juicy! it had a very boisterous enviroment...dayem even though we got there at 7pm we still had to wait almost an hour to be seated!
food is bombay though....i think for food and environment though i still give the edge to Honda-ya in Tustin...that place reminds me the most of Japan.....nonetheless Shinsengumi was dayem tasty. highly recommended.
a bustling place.....honto ni nigiyaka na mise.
1 hr? that's not bad.. 1.5-2hr waits on a saturday aren't unheard of. glad you liked it. i'll check out Honda-ya someday, when im down there for dinner.

yeah the food was pretty luscious.....atmosphere was pretty vibrant as well....i'd go back again....the wait time is a bit insane though....it's because the restaurant is so small. As far as Honda-ya in Tustin is concerned it's great but I've only been there a few times because it's just way far from us L.A. heads....the wait time there can be oppressive as well but the restaurant is much much larger and the menu has quite a bit more items on it including sushi and various other cooked items aside from yakimono (grilled foods)....more importantly though is that it actually stays open until 1AM which is unheard of for most restaurants in L.A. - ones that serve pretty good food that is.
I guess you would classify Honda-ya as an izakaya and not just an yakitori-ya.

i see...8 must be the threshold because there was group of 7 heads and they seemed to have to wait for quite a while too.
pretty much, parties of 5-7 get assed out. once we went w/ 6 people, and waiting almost 2 hours.. but it was a saturday night, and there was already a group of 5 ahead of us, as well as about 10 groups of 2-3.

we had pretty much 2 of everything, 4 of a few, and i think the total beer count was actually around 12 and 1 large sake flask.

good work! the chicken is truly luscious there...i immediately thought of your comparison to Kokekokko (which i still like) but i can see why you prefer Shinsengumi
