Went to have some udon for lunch at this place called Matsui in Weller Court in Little Tokyo.

Saw this sign. Now that's cheap! Too bad I'm not drinking at the moment.

Cruised over to Silverlake to try some pizza at this joint that I've never been to...Tomato Pie Pizza Joint. Probably the best NY style pizza I've ever had in L.A. I had a slice of their Margherita which they call the "Grandma." It was so light, tasty, and greaseless, I almost didn't think I was eating pizza! The guy behind the counter said it's only 90 calories a slice...which shocked the heck out of me. Guiltless pizza, who would have thunk it.

^ If it's guiltless, it can't possibly be pizza. Beaten

Agreed. Agreed. But it was pretty good, I must say. I am sure if I ordered other types of pizza with more toppings it would obviously have been more calories.

HAHAHA. Good point. I had one slice of the Margherita and one slice of the Spicy Sausage with mushroom which has 150-200 calories a slice...still under 300 calories. A crap a$$ microwave personal pizza can have as much as 500 to 600 calories. Sweat

I think it's because the crust is so thin...not too many carbs from the dough, and the toppings are not excessive. Just a thin layer so you can actually taste the sauce.

Ah, the thin crust... Those types of pizzas seems to be harder to make: an undercooked crust makes the pizza limp and an overcooked one makes it a tostada.

Yeah this pizza could be limp if it's not baked long enough in the oven, but, yeah, you can easily overcook a thin crusted pie.

Looks like they skimped a little on the basil. hehe As a devout meat eater, I'm not ashamed to say I love margherita pizzas. Something about the pure simplicity of it that makes it so great. Of course that depends on the quality of the components. When it's that simple, the ingredients have to be the freshest because there's no hiding anything.

Yeah the amount of basil is a tad paltry. hehe
