I'm the odd-man out I guess: I've been watching Jdramas since the early-mid-80's..... Unless you count English-dubbed animes from the 60's: Astro Boy, Speed Racer, and Gigantor...
DAMN... speed racer was the shizzo... I also liked ultraman, but that wasnt really anime.
Ultraman is tokusatsu. For people who don't know what that is, tokusatsu refers to super hero live action shows. The literal meaning of the word is "special effects" which these shows had a lot of (explosions, monsters wearing court shoes, etc.)
A good resource to read up on tokusatsu can be found here:
Also, a few of the JDorama.com members participate on the Generation Kikaida forums, where you can find discussions on Kikaida/Kikaida 01 and Kamen Rider, among others:

Yeah man, Speed Racer started my whole infatuation with cars. I still gotta get me one of those wacky steering wheels with all the buttons on them just like on the show.

not saying that im an anime turned into drama fan cuz i still watch more anime than jdramas. when i was little i usually watch those sentai and taiga dramas and old mecha animes & speed racer lol.. (the theme song is very clingy), then i seriously considered listening to jpop more and start having interest in their fashion and culture, thats when i started watching more jdramas.
Beautiful Life was my first drama and i fell in love with the soundtrack, i came back to watch for more _________________

I'm a big anime/manga fan, and I've only recently discovered J-Dorama. GTO started me off then I decided to give Gokusen a try, I love them both. I also saw a few episodes of Shinsengumi on the TV which was pretty good.
Yet another obsession in the making to take up more of my time... ^_^;;

I've always loved anime from the very beginning - but mine was for obviously different reasons - its because of the artistry of course. It's the art in anime that attracts me into liking it - and I've been liking it for years.
As for the JDorama - I've also developed a taste of J-Pop a long time ago - and I've been recently collecting pictures and scanning Japanese magazines of my favorite idols - but its only a small portion compared to the anime pictures I actually collected from my archives - 2300+ and counting - and no they aren't the cheap pics. I hand-selected very high quality ones.
Since I'm not on my own computer right now, but that of a university - I could've posted up some pictures to showcase what I meant - lemme see... hm. I have my USB up here - so let's get hooked up with a teaser, shall we?
Okay here's a picture of an anime artwork from Yukirin.
gto changed me over..
i used to watch gindam wing, trigun, gasaraki, evangelion
watch gto anime too... quite funny
but i read the manga for gto, my first manga, it was so funny! i remeber the "i can do it!" "i can drive 600km in 2 hours!" haha
