Ninkyo Helper... After watching two episodes though, I'm not sure if I'm going to finish it...

Then again, there is Natsukawa Yui... She's a take-no-prisoners power chick in this drama. Victory! Peace!

Wow, had a major head-scratching conversion job: Converting a 1440x1080i video to 704x396... Sweat

Because the original video was interlaced, my initial conversion gave me a video with the image cut in half... Head Scratch

Took some reading and inquiries from videohelp.com to fix the problem: I had to de-interlace the video first... Doh!

Lesson learned. Sweat

I had an MKV file to author to DVD the other day: ConvertXtoDVD (a fairly recent version) handled it perfectly. The MKV file had 2 audio and 3 subtitle tracks, ConvertX picked them up and had them listed in the file list with nothing else having to be done Smile

^ More and more people seem to be using that Matroska format lately... But it's been more of a nuisance more than anything else. Sweat

It's mostly used where there's multiple audio and/or subtitle tracks. The file I had was an anime movie Smile

Some people over at D-Addicts have been posting some dramas in this format... I guess the encoding is lossless....?

It's actually a container: The video file inside can be mpg, .mov, or anything really. http://www.matroska.org/technical/whatis/index.html

avi is a container, too, isn't it?

I guess mkv offers more versatility than avi, but if were just talking about a raw file, why avi?

You mean why .mkv? Dunno, seems strange. I can see the point when you've got multiple audio and/or subtitle files, but not for raws Crazy

Yeah, generally comes from a PVR or TV recorded thru a TV tuner card on a comp.

That sounds about right.

You'd think that if they were gonna post it up on d-Addicts, they'd at least convert it to avi... Sweat

EDIT: It's INTERLACED as well... Bang Head

Using avidemux to convert the video... Not only do I have to deinterlace it, but I have to resize and correct the aspect ratio as well. Sweat

I was under the impression that the benefit of .mkv over .avi was the file size. For basically the same video quality an .mkv can be a lot smaller in size than an .avi. For example, I have a .mkv movie that's 400MB and the quality (sound and video) is comparable to the .avi file I downloaded that's around 800MB.

That could quite well be true.

Unfortunately, you're relegated to watching the video on your PC, since most (all?) standalone DVD players don't support .mkv... Sweat
