I'm sorta new to this game, but I've been using my brother's DVC to record on-air shows (Trick 3, for example) and old VHS tapes, then piping the AVI file to my PC via Firewire. Then depending on the source quality, I setup TMPGENC to encode the video/audio for DVD burning... A bit time consuming, but the results have been quite good so far... Smile

That'll be up to Elt or Amrayu, I suppose. I don't have the connection speed to deal with anything like that. Sweat

Are you trying to "duplicate" a DVD? Or, are you trying to copy a DVD to your hard disk for conversion purposes (DVD to DivX/XviD, for example)?

Last I heard the deadline was 2006. But I believe it has been pushed back a couple of years. It's the catch-22 situation: stations don't want to lose the analog signals until everyone is able to decode the digital ones, and people don't want to invest in digital sets until the programming is upgraded.

Yeah....but it also means that stations won't have much of a chance to "double up" on digital and analog.

The FCC is also pushing requirements that make it easier for the consumer however to "adapt". For example they will require new HDTVs to include tuners (not to just sell them separately). Thus as more and more people buy new TVs they will have the tuner equipment built in. Eventually it'll work out. Once it all "catches on"...it'll move real quick IMHO. Like DVD sales, it took a little while for consumers to adapt to the new format..but now sales are BRISK and the format is very much widespread.

DTV Tuner Requirements: All television receivers with screen sizes
greater than 13 inches and all television receiving equipment (i.e. VCRs
and DVD recorders) will be required to include DTV reception capability
after July 1, 2007. This requirement is phased in on the following schedule:

Receivers with screen sizes 36 inches and above: 50% by July 1,
2004; 100% by July 1, 2005
 Receivers with screen sizes 25 to 35 inches: 50% by July 1, 2005;
100% by July 1, 2006
Receivers with screen sizes 13 to 24 inches: 100% by July 1, 2007
TV Interface devices (VCRs, DVD players, set-top tuners, etc.:
100% by July 1, 2007

unfortunately, we don't get the same shows subbed as LA does.
it would be nice to watch Trick up here. Grumble

I guess it's a good thing that it seems like at least one person in each market has been capturing the programs and distributing. I don't know how many people on this board go to the newsgroups...but Trick 1-3 has been uploaded in ABMJ over the past several weeks (Trick 3 currently being uploaded episode by episode). Some of them have probably been trading in Bittorrent as well - though I don't pay attention to that as much.

For those of you who don't go to ABMJ, I'm pretty sure Buruburu does since his lists seem to reflect the current shows being distributed there, so you can usually get them through him.

oh, i'm already aware that Trick 1-3 is up on BT and ABMJ. Trick 1 and 2 are probably from my copies (just divxed versions).. hehe

I just wished that they would air Trick up here with subs so i can capture it myself. Trick 1 was a VHS rip, Trick 2 the subs were iffy, as for Trick 3 that was done by Haruspex (and BMWracer-which i already have his version).

It would be nice to have someone in LA capture and post the Korean dramas in HQ. Mr Green but i know i'm asking for too much. rofl

To start off... Here's the PCI card I'm currently focusing on for purchase:

http://www.mitinc.co.kr/mitinc/e_site/prod/images/mdp100.jpg

Street price for this baby is $239.00. Cool thing is that I can use it RIGHT NOW with my current analog situation (possible replacement for my ATI RADEON All-in-Wonder 9800 I'm right now using). The PLUS side of this card I'm looking at (besides analog/ATSC support) is the software... For one, it handles scheduled recordings, unlike some of the other cards I've seen so far.

There's this group called LoL that handles a lot of U.S. TV show captures and encodes of HDTV content. They might be able to offer more information as well...
