However, I did manage to get us some good tickets (free) to the Japanese Cherry Blossom Festival's opening ceremony in Wash. D.C. - sweet!

hmm... I recently said goodbye to a japanese guy, and instead of the 'normal' taptap to shoulder/back when shaking hands, he sortof hit it lower if you know what i mean. A japanese friend -who's a girl-standing next to me, told me that japanese guys do that all the time among friends.. like touch eachother at the chest or 'lowerback'... she thought it was "checking" something but she didn't understand it well either... anyway i'm a guy so you get my point, it was somewhat odd

Ok so different culture.. but someone please explain me better/ confirm?

hehe, there's nothing wrong with a butt pat between friends, especially after a day of sport, it's a common thing in the us. off the field though, the butt pat is pretty greyish but pretty acceptable as long as the following rules are followed:
1. open hand and flat, no cupping of the hand.
2. quick pat, not lingering grope

in respose to the original post i say it's fine as long there is some reciprocity. If you wanna check out cute guys let your husband check out hot women, and then everyone's happy.
