+1.

Fancy names for stuff a person wouldn't normally eat (e.g. escargot) and appetizer-sized portions for the main meal... Beaten

But don't eat fugu (blowfish) at a 2-star restaurant: http://www.japantoday.com/category/crime/view/michelin-two-star-restaurant-in-ginza-in-trouble-over-fugu-poisoning?utm_campaign=jt_newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_source=jt_newsletter_2011-12-02_PM

Although it's the idiot customers fault for asking for it in the first place!! Beat You

Just got back from 2 weeks in Japan. Took a tour since hubby had never been there. Since hubby doesn't eat sashimi (he's allergic) I didn't get to eat the more exotic dishes. It sure was cold there but tolerable. Some of the people on the tour did go to eat fugu and said it wasn't what they expected.....kind of chewy.

They said it was sliced fairly thin and had a slight crunchy/chewy texture....nothing like eating maguro or hamachi.
